TSX Development Team
TSX Development Team
On novemeber 7th a tsx development team from acura is visiting the dealership i work for and is interviewing a couple salesman about potential changes for the TSX. They want us to put together a list of ideas. I figured i put this out to all of the board members here and present that it to this team. And apparently these interviews have alot of push and pull when it comes to developing a model further. So lets get some ideas.......here is my ideas so far
1. 10-20HP gain
2. Bluetooth
3. beafier exhaust(to match the look of the TL)
4. optional or standard(like the rsx type s) lip spoiler
5. New RSX type cloth for a slightly cheaper price
6. optional 18 inch wheels
7. BETTER all season tires and wider
8. choise of XM or sirius
so the floor is open......
1. 10-20HP gain
2. Bluetooth

1. 10-20HP gain
yes
2. Bluetooth
option
3. beafier exhaust(to match the look of the TL)
looks fine to me, but tips don't cost much
4. optional or standard(like the rsx type s) lip spoiler
yes
5. New RSX type cloth for a slightly cheaper price
no, doesn't fit the market range
6. optional 18 inch wheels
just offer the 2005 TL A-Spec wheels, they fit
7. BETTER all season tires and wider
better yes, wider is a toss up
8. choise of XM or sirius
probably too much trouble as they come from the factory w/ XM now
yes
2. Bluetooth
option
3. beafier exhaust(to match the look of the TL)

little things need help...
seat memory, 1 touch passenger window, (power pass. has been addressed, heated mirros, illuminated steering wheel controls, XM). 10-20 HP sounds great, but why? It's the Torque that needs just a little more tweak. 175-180 lb./ft of torque with 200 HP would be wonderful, just for passing people up. The beauty of the K24 in the TSX is that it being not too powerful makes it fun! But then again, add some more HP and who knows maybe redline will start at 7500
? How about rain-sensing wipers, auto-tilt of mirrors when put in reverse, and automatic headlights.
So, to review...
10-20 HP and Lb.ft. of Torque
Rain-sensing wipers
auto-tilt mirrors when in R
Automatic Headlights
"Hey how about a V6 option!"

my ideal k24 would be a 220 HP, 183 lb./ft. of torque k24
. Honda is pretty close, so maybe by next year they'l get it
. The engine as is is pretty good. It's a great, great engine, but for America, it's in the wrong car to make it a speed burner. I can't stand the idea of America that HP wins pride, but that's just how it is. If Honda boosted the output to these numbers Acura would have a TSX that would be able to keep up with the T5, beat the IS300 (the current one), lose by under a car length to an LGT, and keep its wonderful handling and engine fun. I'm fine as is with my engine as I live for a hard turn, not how fast I go. True enthusiasts look at how fun the car is to drive, not how fast it is. As the young guy on Top Gear said (don't know his name), "0-60 and Top Speed just don't matter anymore. It's how the car does on the track." On paper a 350z can smoke an s2000 or RX-8 in 0-60, but look at the hard work Honda and Mazda put into developing their cars compared to Ghosn's idea that Nissan had to rush the Z revival. Sure it's fast as hell, but is it fun to drive compared to the RX-8 which can tie the 350z on a roadcourse or an s2000 which can still beat a 350z? Of course not. Another example, a 225 HP 330i, the best under 50k sports sedan EVER MADE. It doesn't have 265 HP a la g35 or 270 HP a la TL, but look at the difference. Sorry to get off topic so fast, but yeah, that's my reasoning for keeping the v6 out of the TSX. A 220 HP K24 is much much better. Besides, Acura has the TL for a reason other than bigger car. Just my

my choices are more horsepower (10-20) and an increase in the amount of torque, one touch windows (on all windows), and a one touch moonroof. Acura should look at the dials used to operate the moonroof in the Audi/Volkswagens.

one-touch windows won't happen unless the TL and MDX get them, which is doubtful.
I never knew the Accord Euro head headlamp washers, but the TSX won't get those either unless the TL and MDX get them.

. 150 would be godlike! if Acura can use an all aluminum head for their engine, why not an all aluminum hood?

the rl has headlamp washers.beside it not like they would have to design them.just add the parts to tsx production.I would love to have that on my car the headlight allways get dirty really fast.

. I agree with you on adding parts from production, but how would that make Acura look? Their entry level sedan would have some features the TL wouldn't
. One thing they could easily do now that I thought about it, how about door locks that engage once in D or 1?
the order of importance for me would be:
hp/tq gain
awd or rwd
better stock tires
better optional rims
power passenger seat
optional lip spoiler
one-piece keyfob
softer (felt or moleskin) window linings (w/o it, my window squealed when opening at high speeds)

- 20 hp!!! Performance hybrid option in the future.
- Dealer option for RCA audio input for portable MP3 player
- Sunroof should close remotely using key FOB!!
- Replace front skirt with a full bumper upgrade like the Mazda 6.
- Rear lip spolier option (not everyone wants a spoiler)
- Reverse side-view mirror tilt (this would be REALLY useful)
- Memory seat
- Headleamp washers - do these even work that well??
- Rain sensing wipers (JDM or Euro Accord has these I think)
- 18" wheels option
- Lowered sport suspension option at every dealer / on website
- White turn signal lights option
- Blue back-lit speed/RPM guages like on RL and Odyssey
- Angel eyes

to insert my 2 pennies in this discussion:
- i don't see the reason behind not giving the tsx engine about another 20hp and 20ft-lbs (ideally this is what i prefer) and shaving about 50-100 lbs off the curb weight. 220hp/190lbs torque
- brakes i think need to be addressed, we have the same brakes as an rsx-s (for the most part). while we have an extra 600 lbs to haul around. or like tl a 6mt standard feature brembos
- summer tires a no-cost option a la tl
- the moonroof express button would be cool as with the headlight washers ans memory seats (thee i think they can do as "new" features in 2006, like they did in 2005)
- i think the gears need to be rethinked, to far spacing between 2-3 not enough for crusing in 6th
- the clear corners would be awsome, but again it could be a "new" feature
- in my opinion they can offset some of these costs by removing the DBW (while i'm not 100% familiar with it i know a bit about it), i think DBW dosen't help very much, plus it will be easier to reflash the ecu
i for one would like to see a v6 option as a type s tsx w/ navi, priced about 1g under tl..... but i was thinking of the nsx 3.2 engine. it will help offset the nsx pricing and it will give us some bragging rights.......that's what i think should happen to the 2006 or so tsx.
btw i think that the issue of money will not make alot of the things we want to see into the tsx, because the tsx is known for a great bang for the buck......... but you never know

my five cents
- add 20hp/torgue engine and shaving about 50-100 lbs off the curb weight
- 2 position memory drivers seat
- optional bluetooth installation (maybe dealer option?)
- reverse side-view mirrors tilt or camera mounted option
- extra control for one-touch moonroof
- key activated auto up/down all windows
- better tires
- optional clear corners

*I would highly recommend getting auto-leveling HID's so we don't blind ppl
*Thumbs up on the washer for headlights
*20 more HP
*Bigger size rim optional
*JDM accord body kit would be nice if offered in the States
*auto-tilt mirrors when in R
*Better stock audio system maybe like TL, BOSE?
*optional upgrade suspension
* Rain sensing blades would be nice.
*RCA inputs for things such as MP3 players
*Doors automatically lock when engine starts and open when engine is in turned off, I would want this the most out of everything.

I would also like to see an optional Bluetooth upgrade, as it is probably one of the most useful features in the TL and RL.
wow our awesome bang for the buck car will turn into a 30 something thousand dollar car.
some good replies though...keep em coming. illl put together a nice list after a few days of having this thread open

My vote would include:
More Torque
Memory for the pwr seat
New wheel options
Auto tilt mirror in R
Taller 6th gear for highway cruising
Remote closure of sunroof
Drilled Alum pedals for 6spd versions

1. At least 20 more HP
2. Boost torque
3. Auto on/off headlights
4. Auto on/off wipers
5. LED tail lights
6. Bluetooth
7. Something more that fills the description that this is a "sports" sedan.

off-topic for a sec...
seems almost everyone wants more POWER...
Realistically is it possible to squeeze more out of the K24 ???
What other cars have similar spec but more HP/torque ?
Or need to drop in more cylinders (in which case it becomes a TL)

For me, what I'd like to see would be
1. Power increase by 20 hp and maybe 20 lb/ft of torque.
2. Reduced weight for better performance
3. Lighter wheels with better tires
4. Bigger slotted brakes

1. They should be able to easily squeeze more HP out of the K24. Read the article on the K-series engine in Honda Tuning (August 2004?). Plus the RSX-S should not have more HP for less $$. Maybe a TSX Type S?
2. Instead of a V-6, which probably won't fit, how about a hybrid model similiar to the 05 Accord on the existing engine for a boost in both HP and MPG?
3. They should offer parts of the A-Spec package as options, instead of "all or nothing" as it was this year. That way you could choose 17" or 18" wheels, having the car lowered 1'', etc.
4. Coupe. Look at the difference between the G35 Coupe and Sedan. The coupe
the sedan.
5. Brembo brake option.
6. 6-Spd AT same gearing as the 6MT.

Small HP gain, or better yet, torque gain, would be nice.
Bluetooth would be a real good idea (stay out front of the pack).
But, don't go overboard on automated/electronic doo-dads ...
as the pendulum seems to be swinging away from unneeded complexity
(a quote from a Mercedes engineer saying they're moving away from
the BMW-type multi-function gizmos).
Having a good pure mechanically-functioning vehicle with a degree
of elegance is preferred to having some soon-to-be-dated-looking
"space-age"/over-done tech-monstrosity.
IMHO, please do NOT put automatic locks on it.
I can't stand things that "do" things for me, that I can do just as well
or better. I've never ever had a "door open" on me while driving.
Latch the durn thing. Every time I drive a car with the dreaded
"here, I'll lock these for you" doors, it drives me crazy. If I wanted 'em
locked, I'd lock 'em. I "automatically" reach over and attempt to unlock them.
Daytime running lights would be in the same category ... the please
don't do it category. Many of these "features" remind me of a certain
O/S that likes to "help" you with many things ... to such an extent that
books are available to help you undo them ("Access Annoyances").
my two cents, from a first-time poster, but long-time lurker

Tell them to offer some of the options that both the European and Japanese market have.
One big one would be a rear view camera offered with the Nav system. The rear end of the TSX is so high that it is difficult to judge how close you are to an object behind you, plus if a child is behind, there is a very good possibility that he/she will not be seen.
Mirrors tilt down when going in reverse.
More power would be nice.
1 touch windows & sunroof.
Option on rims.
Optional Bluetooth.
Beefier brakes.
Light that go on automatically at dusk.
Daytime driving lights.
Would be nice if they figure a way to hook up an IPOD to your car and be able to use the Nav screen and steering controls.
I think headlight washers are a waste of money. They don't work well, plus you just end up spraying your entire car with them.
