TSX automatic transmission kickdown observation

I have a 2005 TSX with the automatic transmission.

One of the few things I don't like about the TSX is the following:

When in full automatic mode, while you are driving and slow down to 8-10 miles an hour (such as to make a left turn or while slowing down at a stop sign or yield sign) and you floor the accelerator, the transmission is very slow to kick down from 2nd gear to 1st gear. I know I would not have this problem with the tiptronic where I would manually make the gear changes. Still, the full automatic mode should not be so damn slow.

How many automatic TSX owners are having the same observations?

I also have a 1990 Honda Accord with an automatic transmission. The transmission of this 16 year old car is more responsive than the the tsx under the same conditions.

Thanks for all responses

True. I used to get better response from my 94 Volvo 850, but still it's fine for me.

i notice it too, my 88 civic shifts faster and smoother. Maybe if you give it some more miles it will become smoother because its more worn out. I think its because there is too much power for a FWD drive car.

My car already has 20,000 miles. I don't think it will get any better.

Yeah I have noticed this also. It is one of the things that I hate about my car. It's like I slow down to make a turn or whatever, and when I accerlate, it like bogs because 2nd gear isn't right for that speed.

I thought the 5AT had some advanced fuzzy logic software to limit the amount of downshifts in full auto mode for a smoother ride? I think the luxury mode is taking priority over the sport mode in the full auto.

I would guess it's the programming and the DBW throttle. The DBW adds delay and on top of that on a turn I would guess that Acura programmed it so you don't lose traction and spin your wheels when you "floor it."

I thought i'd just mention that your icon picture looks like a Toyota Yaris because of it's compressed ratio.

I had an AT loaner the other day and I notice the delay in switching gears at low speed too. I guess you just have to step on the pedal harder.

I love that delay. It gives me time to reflect on the beauty and elegance of my car.
