tsx auto

why does it seem that a lot of the newer cars have almost no discernible difference in acceleration between manual and auto? ex. g35 coupe, new bmw 3 series. the manual will be slightly quicker of course but only if perfectly driven. whereas for most drivers on the road a auto will keep up with and often overtake the manual. however for the tsx (i have an auto) there is a huge difference between the auto and manual? almost a 1 second difference in the 1/4 mile. if perfectly driven. is it because the cars mentioned above are 6 cylinders or just better autos? tsx auto is good but disappointing . thx for feedback

Well.. if you want an extreme example... the new mbz C350 (they replace the 3.2 liter engine with 3.5). they equip manuel with 6 gears. but auto version with 7 speed sport shift.. thats 1 more gear than stick shift. resulting acceleration 0-60 automatic is 0.5 sec faster than the stick version... so... you never know!
