Trip Computer Buffer
Regarding the 32km "buffer" the trip computer subtracts from your calculated range: has anyone really looked to see how accurate all of that is?
((Other mileage/trip comp threads seemed old and didn't really discuss the buffer, so I thought I'd open this one.))
I know all of us seem to get higher readings from the average mpg (I'm getting about 1mpg less when I manually calc it on a "tank" of gas), but I figured it was more along the lines of a "constant efficient calc vs a single miles/gal calc" type of thing.
I noticed you can also see quite a bit of real-time data in the diag, but I was driving at the same time so I couldn't pay close attention. (under functional setup, then trip information. You should see the distance of movement in mm, fuel info and more. Also, while in that menu, hold the menu button for 4 seconds then you can change the buffer ... yeah, maybe an easter egg entry)

Have you tried changing the buffer to see if it made your mileage calculator more accurate? Like you, I normally see 1-2 mpg less by hand than the trip computer. If it makes a difference, you should post it in the "Easter Eggs" thread.

Good idea.. I've recorded the last 2 readings after filling up, so I think I'll finish this tank off, then reset the buffer to 0. I'm not sure if it'll make any difference in the mpg calc, but you certainly get a better range if that matters. (btw, on the buffer setup screen it does show the "displayed value" vs the "real" value)

Quick update: After the refill I reset the buffer to 0, reset the trip computer and oddly enough the mpg is lower than I'd typically see it. (probably accurate for once)
Also, the trip computer's mileage was always at least 0.5mi off the one in the dash. Both were reset at the same time, but now after the buffer is at 0 they're the same or just 0.1 off.

I thought the trip buffer was for fine tuning the trip to actual gals used....I turn my down to 31.
I will keep changeing it till.. i see the trip computer match my miles used , est, mpg and i believe gals used...not looking at it now..
Unless some found the magic number to set it at. Does any one have the manual... to maybe explain how to configure this?
