dude you're not alone
I've kicking around the idea myself. I've got a 2004 sti and have been thinking of getting out of my sti for a tsx. That's kind of why I'm lurking the forums.
The sti is a great car, but i'm making only 17 mpg. What's bad is that that is my most fuel efficient car.
I used to commute by train to work so it didn't bother me too much. I have to drive to work now and this isn't fun.
Between gas and insurance, I would be saving about $750 a year in just operating costs. It's starting to make sense.

Ouch. 17MPG as your most fuel efficient car?
It's a no brainer to those that need to commute long distance, but shop around before deciding on the TSX. There are one too many members that come back from buyer remorse, in fact, the TSX is like the mistress. You like it because it's nice in many ways, but you're always tempted to get something slightly better.

I had an STi (2004) for a year and 22000+ miles. Loved the speed, hated the punk attraction factor. Averaged around 22mpg.
I looked at the TSX (have owned several Acuras and a few Hondas) but decided on a Legacy GT sedan, which is sort of in between the STi and the TSX.
For me, it was a great choice. I've had it for 1.5+ years and 30000+ miles, and it has most of the STi's performance and most of the TSX's amenities.
I still like each of the three cars very much for their particular strengths.

How much do you want to sell it? How many miles you have?
One of my friends wants to dump his 350Z for either a STi or a MR.

talk to maccaddict...he traded his TSX for a STI he'd be the man to talk to being that he has driven both on a daily basis..I know he says he switched b/c the lack of power, although he misses the interior...the TSX interior kills the STIs.

Wow another STI owner looking at the TSX. A pal of mine is thinking the same thing. He said that he was jealous that I got his 'dream car'. He is building a Civic hatch for autox and track days so he figures he will still have a fun car. I guess the day to day in an STI can be a drain, I dunno...
I recently bailed on the Suby camp by trading in my old skool Impreza RS (2000 sedan) on my TSX. While it wasn't the beast that is the STI or even the WRX, it was still a fun little car to drive (yes, even more engaging than the TSX). I hated to let it go but have no remorse really...it was time for a change for me and I'm happy with the Acura
Good luck on whatever you decide...

LISTEN TO SIMPLEWHITE
The STI is the fastest car I have ever driven....it was enough to be scary.
The bottom line is that the STI is all motor, where as the TSX blends an upscale car with features and luxary and enough power to still be fun. I found the STi to lack some serious interior perks....and yes it carries the "punk kid" image. The

TSX 23-26 mpg average
STi (you said 17mpg)
I am not a TSX ower "yet" but I have been researching and shopping them for months!!
Not an expert, but working on it....
I have test driven the 04 MT, 04 AT, 05 AT, 06 AT, 06 MT TSX.
I FOUND IT TO BE VERY FUN WITH UNBEATABLE OPTIONS FOR THE PRICE.
get the NAV!!!!!! have it in my 2005 MDX (best NAV on the market)
plus the NAV is integrated into all kinds of fun stuff!

I agree, power isnt everything. It sure is nice though.
When I got my STI back in 2003, it was my only car and it worked great as a single car. Powerful AWD sports sedan. I could load up the kids and roll in the snow or rain no prob.
Last year I got a dedicated sports car and now more and more I feel a "softer" sedan would make more sense. I don't really want to have two sporty cars. It doesnt make too much sense for me.
So, looking to move into a more cost effective car with nice amenities. The TSX does seem like a nice fit.

some food for thought....
Subaru anounced they are making a WRX STI Limited for next model year. It's going to be the same STI we all love but with leather, heated seats, sound insulation, and other luxury features.
Steps it up a bit towards the TSX in my opinion
