TOTALED my poor TSX T_T

Long story short. My 06 TSX is totaled and i need another car. I was thinking of getting the 08 TSX because I actually liked my 06. But people are telling me to get a different car since i've already had a TSX. I wanted a BMW but I'm still a working student so i doubt i can handle the payment for it...so yea i'm considering around the $30k and under range, should i get another TSX or is there any other car you guys would recommend?

Thanks
Hannah

Assuming you're looking for another 4-door, the TSX is pretty hard to beat in that price segment. Don't let your emotional desires get you in financial trouble.

Sure, if you're willing to get it without any options, have 2 fewer doors, and deal with the potential reliability issues, it is indeed the same price as a fully loaded, 4-door, relatively reliable TSX.

very true...
nissan doesn't really offer anything like the tsx in your price range...
neither does toyota or honda...civic? accord?

Ya I agree; no comparison. A comparable 1 series would probably be 10 grand more (not including the new model dealer gouge that they'll bleed from the "gotta have it" crowd). If you want another fully loaded 4 door for $26K - $28K, there's really no other option.

I heard with the new A4 coming, they are getting the old model out quick. You might want to jump on the A4. I think they were giving S-line assesories (trims and body kit) to help get them out quicker. I see more A4's on the street that are less than a month old. I was considering this because my Gf wants to buy my car (07') and I was considering the A4 since it'll probably be as cheap as the TSX.

If you're thinking BMW, consider a certified pre-owned e46.

Apparently they don't want to get rid of them that badly just yet because I have been seeing if I can weasel a great deal on one and it's been hard to get much of a discount just yet. Maybe as we get closer to the release date of the B8 A4 later this year.

If anything, the 2008 TSX should be a great deal in about a couple weeks when the 2009 TSX officially gets released at the NY Auto Show.

Yea true. I just read Audi's official release statement that they are having a special edition A4 to help boost the current A4 sales. Maybe in a few months or when the new models actually are released, they'll sell them super cheap.

The A4 is going for $360 per month w $3K down, leased. I was actually thinking about leasing an A5, but that was $700 per month.

So I am waiting until the NY Auto Show and once I see all of the new TSX and finally decide I don't want it, I will be going for a 2008. I don't plan to spend more than $320 a month and I'm not planning to put much, if anything down.

I'm sorry to hear about your 06, I have an 06 as well. If you're able to strip your car of a few parts let me know if you want to sell me your gauge cluster. I don't care if it's AT or MT, it's for a project I want to work on...

I just wanted to add to this because I wasn't exactly clear... It may be illegal to remove parts from your totaled car as it may belong the the insurance company now. Don't steal, only if you find out you're allowed to do this

How much does the insurance company give you for the 06? I was always curious on how much money insurance company's shell out when the car has been totalled

hoho. i can't even get into my totaled car. they wouldn't let me get anything from it because they were afraid it would fall apart on me while i was getting my stuff out or something. i seriously was shocked when i went to see my car....seriously i had no idea at the time but the 2 front wheels of my car were like ripped off. T_T anyways...=T i doubt the insurance company would let me take parts but i mean i'll ask since i have nothing to lose. as far as how much they're giving me for the car i'm not sure. they told me i have to wait till the adjuster looks over everything but they guy said i should get an amount close to what the 06 tsx is re-selling for in my area. I'm hoping to get $20k more would be better...i just want to get enough to pay it off since i had about $17k left to pay off.

as for the audi. even though it is my money i'm using to get my car...i don't think my dad will want me to get an audi. he says i won't be able to handle the maintenance. since i'm gonna go buy a car in about an hour...i think i may have to just get another TSX.

Go get another TSX, the cost of maintaining a BWM and Audi's won't help your working student budget. Best bet is try to find a used CPO TSX or if you want to get a new one up to you.

I will suggest you get what you want, not what other people tell you to. You are the one that is going to drive it, and if that little voice is telling you to get another TSX well listen to it. You already know the car, you know how it drives, so if you were happy with it, why not get another one? I would. (especially how there are not many cars that compare.)

You could easily look for a CPO E46 BMW, G35, or Audi...you'll notice the driving dymanics are so much better in the RWD cars....a lot more fun...that and the huge power difference. Plus you can find most all these cars cheap..and you tend to get 100k mile warranty on the CPO's.

If you don't mind thinking outside the box, the new Subaru Legacy GT (turbo) is a FANTASTIC car...beautiful in and out.

G'luck with your decision!

I hate to derail but I think you have too few posts for PM - if your steering wheel is in good condition and you can get it off the car, I'll buy it from you.

matt.vallee@gmail.com if you want to talk about this.

And as for your dilemma - I say get another TSX. It's a great car, you know you love it, and you know you can afford it. You can probably get one cheaper after the 09s are coming out too.

- Matt

Actually, not so much. When you add all the options to the 128i that come standard on a TSX, you get:

Base MSRP $28,600
Black Boston Leather $0
Gray Poplar wood trim $0
Premium Package $3,600 (power seats, auto dim mirror, lumbar support, etc.)
Heated front seats $500
iPod and USB adapter $400
Satellite radio $595

Total MSRP as Built $33,695

It's close, but still a bit more. Not to mention higher maintenance costs, etc.

But that's a base A4 with few options. Once you start adding half the options that the TSX has, you start getting into ridiculous lease rates. Not worth it, trust me.

At the same time, the TSX is currently leasing for around $3k drive-off and $339 per month, which is a much better deal.

I'd wait a bit for the redesigned TSX. It should hit soon after NYIAS. 1 series is a good option but it's the first model year.

Nissan if you get it, buy it used depreciation is terrible on those cars.

If practicality isn't much of an issue get a used s2000!!! FTW

^^time is against you when you total your car.

I say if you were happy with the TSX, why not get another one? If you ever had any doubts though, now is the time explore your other options.

Yep..4 years , 50,000 miles..covers everything from oil changes to brakes to wiper blades...all you have to do is put gas in it!

which comes in handy since BMW uses 7 quarts of synthetic oil from factory...those oil changes can get expensive !

Like the other people said, choose the car you want. You're the one who'll be driving/maintaining it. My brother totalled his mustang, and followed our mom's advice on buying his new vehicle. He hasn't received his first month's bill yet, and he's already asking me how to trade-in his vehicle. He'd rather spend thousands of dollars to switch to a vehicle he wants than to continue driving a vehicle that reminds him every day that he doesn't like.
