Top Speed in which gear?

I have a hundred dollar bet with a friend of mine. We disagree as to which gear the 6MT TSX reaches its top speed, either 5th or 6th. Not talking about acceleration in this case, only top speed. I have absolutely no plans to drive my own TSX that fast, so everyone's help here is appreciated.

I would appreciate any links, as some concrete proof will probably be necessary for either me or my buddy to collect. Thanks Ya'll.

C&D doesn't help my be either way. . . says top speed is achievable in either gear because it is drag limited. Anyone have any proof to the contrary? I'm pretty sure the top speed is a little higher than 133, but can you really get there in both gears?

DRIVETRAIN

Transmission: 6-speed manual
Final-drive ratio: 4.70:1
Gear ... Ratio ... Mph/1000 rpm ... Max. test speed
I ... 3.27 ... 4.8 ... 34 mph (7100 rpm)
II ... 1.88 ... 8.4 ... 60 mph (7100 rpm)
III ... 1.36 ... 11.7 ... 83 mph (7100 rpm)
IV ... 1.03 ... 15.4 ... 109 mph (7100 rpm)
V ... 0.83 ... 19.2 ... 133 mph (6950 rpm)
VI ... 0.66 ... 24.0 ... 133 mph (5550 rpm)

Car and Driver tested the 2004 TSX and found the top speed to be 133mph in both 5th and 6th gears:

However, i think that Sauceman had reached higher speeds, in 6th gear I think!

There's another thread where Sauceman indicates reaching speeds > 140mph... i believe he indicates that he hit that speed in 6th gear, and that it was still accelerating...

143... that's as fast as I went... I didn't try it on my 06 but it got there with the 04 aqnd the 05... The 06 should get there a little faster.

In my auto, top speed is in 4th. 5th gear is the top gear though.

I've seen a vid that hit about 146 indicated on the speedo, and that was after shifting at 7300rpm. When in 6th gear, the car didn't pull anymore though. The needle just sat there.

Was that based on the speedo, or an external reading? Speedos aren't very reliable to assess the car's speed...

I'm starting to think this bet will end up with neither me or my friend really being able to prove it either way. Seems it is possible that top speed can be reached in either gear, or at least I can't prove otherwise.

If you could find a track with a long enough straight, i would say test it!

It was the speedo, but then again, we only want to know which gear reaches drag limits first, and not the actual value of the top speed.

All I'm saying is that I saw the vid where the car was still pulling in 5th, and had to shift. In 6th, it was not accelerating anymore. This was the autobahn, so I'm not sure if the road was sloping upwards or downwards.
