Tire Valve Stems on TSX
So I finally triggered the dumbass alarm.
The original plastic caps are plastic, and one was missing when I went to put some air in.
So I went to a supermarket to find a replacement, but they only had brass (cromeish) ones..... I put them on all 4 stems.
Too bad I didn't major in chemistry. TPMS valve stems are made of aluminum. Over time, brass and aluminum fuses together.
Today, I couldn't get the cap off, so I used a wrench to twist it off, and voila! Took the threaded part of the stem too....... Looked inside the cap, and the aluminum was just fused to the cap.....
Granted, it only took about 4mm of the outer thread off, and the valve itself is still OK and tire is holding air.
Now I switched back to plastic, and greased the threads.
Problem now is,
Should I just leave it? The valve still lets air in, and holds air, and still works fine. Just the little plunger thing (valve) is exposed now, as the threads surrounding it is now gone.
I really don't feel like replacing the TPMS unit and having the stealer reprogram the computer, which can get expensive.....
So call me a dumbass or whatever, but what are your thoughts?
