Tire question

Noticed 4 days back that there is a nail in the passenger side rear tire, don't know how long it has been there. Took it to Belle Tire today and they said it can't be repaired as it goes through the side wall. Does anybody know if Michelin tire warranty (orginial warranty came when I bought the car 3 months back) covers this?

I still haven't replaced it yet, I think should replace it ASAP. I think its good to get the same size tire 215/50 R17 (costs nearly 200$) , but belle tire don't have that size. And couldn't get michelin same size tire in the near by shops. Have to shop around.

Any suggestions,
Thanks.

Not sure if it is covered by Michelin's Warranty, check with your Acura dealer to see if they can replace it under Michelin's warranty. A member here picked her car up from the dealer and got a nail in the tire as she drove it home and the next day the dealer replaced it free.

Here is a link to that thread: http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14258

Be sure to let us know how you make out.

If you are only replacing one tire, yes it must be the same size as the others. You can always order the tire online if you can't find it locally. Tirerack

Not sure since I can't see it for myself. But if it hit the sidewall, integrity might be compromised. Since Belle tire assessed the damage they should be able to give you a better opinion. Sidewall damage has me thinking it is unsafe to drive at highway speeds, without seeing it I would say not to drive fast.

You can alway put the donut (spare tire) on until you get a new replacement tire.

Hmmmm....I know I would not do it. Imagine a sudden loss of pressure at 75 mph in busy highway trafic.

I would limit your driving to just what is essential until you get the tire replaced. A nail in the sidewall is not a good thing to have.

I don't know what Acura USA has for tire warranties but in Canada I was told by two different dealers and a tire shop that the OEM Michelins that came on our car had no warranty. I have had one repaired and one replaced all at my cost.

Geez gilbo, is that all you can come up with!

I myself would rather not lug a full size spare around 24/7!!!

Don't get one different tire. Either you change all four or you'll have to keep looking for another MXM4.

Verdict is still out on the load rating. A lot of members here are running a set of tires with a lower load rating than OEM specs and they have not experienced any problems. I will probably also run a set of lower load rating tires next summer when I decide on getting another set of rims for the non-winter months.

I haven't been able to get any official info on why the OEM specs indicate a 93 load rating. Here is a thread link on the: XL Load Rating?

Got the same 4th tire, michelin 215/50R17 93V mounted. It costed 200$ I think acura shd. think of some less expensive tires.

My other 3 tires already have 3700 miles on that. don't know if new 4th one will cause others to wear down qucikly than usual.
