Tinting Recommandations (%)

after having my 06 for 6~7 months, i'm still a new to tinting.

got a quote $185, lifetime warranty all around tinting at Autoxtras, Ann Arbor Michigan.

i live in NJ/school in MI, and actually the two states have same tinting laws.

::back windows, windshield as much dark as i want
:: front windows, no tint except 4 inch strips.

and because i also work around emergency responding environment, i'm always around police... ,
so i absolutely want the LOOK, but also wanna be safe from getting tickets.

here are my options. what do you guys recommand?
thanks,

1. 35% all around
2. 50~60% all around
3. 15~30% back, 35~50% front
4. 15% back, 60~75% front

i'm looking to get mine tinted as well. a friend of my wife' got his TL done at this shop in brooklyn for about 200-something. they use pretty good stuff. huper optik and solar gard.

i emailed him for a quote but i still haven't heard anything from him yet. i was thinking of doing 30% all around (all door windows, back window).

You must have meant rear window as much as you want, not windshield.

Minnesota law is no more than 50% tinting (OEM rears excluded). I think I'm going to go with 35% five window this spring. $200 sounds decent for the quality films; I haven't looked into pricing in my area yet.

As far as your options, number 1 is going to look the best, but could get you in trouble. I would say that anything over 50% is hardly noticeable so I wouldn't bother with number 4. In your situation, I think I'd do 50% all around (option 2) because although you're still illegal, it's not going to be nearly as noticeable.

I prefer tint jobs that are identical in all windows, just looks better IMO.

If the legal limit is 35% in Michigan then I would either go 35% all around or 20% for the back 3 windows and 35% on the front 2. I prefer no strip on the front windshield of a tsx simply because it looks tacky on a luxury car IMO plus the tsx already has a stock sunstrip.

Anything lighter than 35% is pointless IMO.

I went with 20% tint all around which is darker than the 35% legal limit here in Indiana but the cops really dont hastle you at all in this area for tint unless its limo or that ugly mirrored tint.

I have 35% all the way around and it just looks really clean! I wouldn't mix and match, cause then it looks uneven and just doesn't look right. I thought about that but just went with 35%. Plus, with 35% you have a better chance of not getting "caught" by police. If you go darker, you start to run into problems. I think 20% is cutting it close, which is what i ideally wanted, but it was safer with 35%. The law in PA is nothing less than 70% on the front two windows but you can see through mine pretty easily with light. At night its a little harder. I have pics posted if you search you can see my 35 all the way around.

i have 20% on mine all around. it's pretty dark when no sun is hitting the car. after sunset they're almost as dark as limo tints (except if you have interior lights on).

i also have my windshield tinted with 50% barely noticable but helps with the sun, etc..

i actually just got a quote from www.theartoftint.com, at the recommendation of a friend. using huper optik materials, it's $450 and that covers the lifetime warranty, scratches, etc...

this guy seems highly recommended. he's tinted cars for derek jeter, 50cent, jlo, fabolous, jerry seinfeld, and p. diddy.

but for $450 dollars? i mean, i want quality, but that's a bit steep imo. thoughts? is the solar gard material as good as the huper? is it cheaper?

I got 35% all around using llumars for 169 bucks.
My friend's bf got his evo tinted with 3m tint
500 bucks
but his 35% looks damn nice, and lighter than mine.

I got pulled over 4 times going through holland tunnel for my front tints too dark....

I would go with the same percent all around except for the front windshield, I got 3m 20% all around. It looks sweet. I'm from bergen county too and i havent been pulled for tints yet and I'm always rollin down on route 17 and u probably know how many cops are on that strip.

this is stupiud question but
when 35% tinting all around means 35% also on the front windshield?
"all around" means including front windshield?

its illegal to tint the windshield when they mean all around they mean sides and back.. not front.. and I got 35%.. looks clean.. I personally dont dig the lighter fronts and darker backs.. not balanced..

35% can get you in trouble in Jersey, where you can't have any tint whatsoever on the two front side windows. I had 35% all around (Madico tint) and got pulled over for it in October. Got let off with a warning to get the front removed, so I did that to avoid being hassled in the future (there are always cops on the road I go to work, where I got pulled over). If you want less hassle, either go with 50% all around or just tint the back 3 windows to be 100% safe. It sucks, I know.

"all around" means everywhere EXCEPT the winshield. Only extremely stupid people tint the winshield (go on and flame if you want...) but lots of people tint all glass except the winshield, hence the lingo... all around.

35% all around on my Carbon Gray. Love it.

Previously, I had 20% all around on my white Benz. 20% is very dark, and gave a nice black/white effect on the Benz, but a more conservative 35% goes well with an already dark-colored car, like the Carbon Gray. This is of course, IMO.

Michigan is very similar. We can only have 4" strips on the front side windows. However I see quite a few cars with the tint "all around" so maybe the cops here don't care as much or those people like paying tickets.

Hmm...I live in MT where we don't get pulled over if our windows are tinted too dark. I have mine set up to be tinted next Monday at 5% all around.

yea this is wut i was really expecting from NJ residents...
yea cops everywhere...especially where i live Northern Bergen County near George Washington Bridge.

would 50% or 60% on the front and 35% on the back be safe?
i mean..how dark "dark" is 60% tint?
i really think if it's dark grayish, it'd be fine... maybe it's just my opinion

You could try that and see, it wouldn't be as dark (noticeable). IMO, even 35% isn't all that dark in some lighting, but it's noticeable nonetheless and will run you the risk of getting pulled over. The cop that pulled me over said he was surprised that I hadn't been pulled over before, because they are usually very strict about tint. I hadn't had a problem in almost a year.

You're also not in NJ or MI, where the tint laws are different. I'd imagine you can away with a lot more down there than you can here.

Im pretty happy with 20% in the back. Dark enough to keep the light out during the day, but light enough to still see pretty well at night.

In CA, we're not suppost to have the front windows tinted, so I dont. But I see soooo many cars with it that Im considering just doing it at maybe 30%. I think most people get away with it as long as its not too dark.

It all depends on the color of your interior. If you have a dark or black interior then I recommend no darker than 35% all around ( no strip on the windshield). You also have to consider the factory tint that adds to the add-on tint. It will make it look darker than it is on a cloudy day. 35% is dark enough to keep some sunlight out but light enough to keep the cops from pulling you over to give you an inspection ticket.

i think it really depends on how much light there is.

if you're interior is lighter, if it's sunny out, it'll look relatively lighter than if your interior was dark.

at night, it probably doesn't matter.

my interior is ebony. if i get the 30% tints, it'll look pretty dark no matter what. i just hope when it's done, i don't get pulled over for them. in NYC, up to 30% is legal. i've never heard of anyone being stopped just for tints, but with cops you never know.

I have 20% all around with ebony interior. Where I live, 35% is the limit in the front windows. I got pulled over in NYC a month or so ago. The cop tested my tint, it read as 19 (window was dirty), he just said "that's too dark", ran my license, and let me go. I got lucky.

I do love my dark windows, though!

35% all Around F1 Pinnacle on Carbon Gray

In Texas the law is 35% front and passenger and no limit on the back. I went with 35% all around. I also got a visor on the front window. I've owned several tinted cars and the F1 ceramic is the best film I've had so far. It has great heat rejection and is very clear. Not cheap but I have navigation and didn't want to take the chance. I think this combo looks good on the carbon gray.

From the inside... the visor looks a little purple-ish because of the pre-existing tint on the windshield. If I had to do it again I wouldn't bother with the visor. I was hoping they would put it low enough to cover the gap around the rear view mirror but because of the curve of the windshield it does not go that low. I have issues with glare and direct light in my eyes causing headaches, but this didn't really help.

I have 35% all around, which is the legal limit in Florida. Has a nice clean look.

35% front 20% back here in cali.. it creates enough of a contrast that cops wont bother me (I believe it is illegal to have tint on the frontdoor windows in cali)

thanks to all the aznians with your opinions.

i did my tinting today, and ended up doing 5% back windows and back windshield.

didn't do anything for FRONT SIDE WINDOWS nor FRONT WINDSHIELD.

5% is very dark, and looks SO good with my PWP tsx, and it's legal in NY/NJ/MI, so i'm good for it.

still being a student, i cannot take care of random tickets for tinting front side wondows, never know when i'm gonna get.....

5% is actually So dark that the "darkness" is reflected by my interior (Parchment), and the front windows look darker than normal without any tinting... funny
also, the OEM windows have greenish slight tint in it, which looks good as well.

Pics coming soon after a carwash!
but for now, no carwash/window opening for couple of days~

Huper Optik is one of the best tints on the market so if you can get your car tinted you will definately see a reduction in heat during the summer if you live somewhere hot like me in texas. summer's here are like 100 + so any tint that can cut down on the heat in my car when i have to leave it to bake outside is a huge plus.

Probably a safe choice not doing the front windows. I didn't want to deal with random tickets all the time either, so I removed it. Riding around all the time was annoying.

What's the legal limit for FL? Seems like everyone down there has limo tint...

Do you have to pull it all off?
