Tighten Cap Message

Hello. Yesterday, the "tighten cap" message appeared on my MID after school. I don't know what's wrong with it. I filled up my tank today and the message is still there. I unscrewed the cap myself and screw it back in till it clicks...did it again like four five times and let it click more than once but the message doesn't go away! Should I take it to the dealership or can I fix this myself? I don't wanna call and have them tell me some BS and that it is not under warranty or something. I have a 07.

much appreciate any help on this. Thanks

The owners manual describes how the system works. Essentially the message will clear by itself after a certain amount of time. It only self tests under very specific parameters, so even if the leak is fixed (by tightening the cap) it will not clear immediately.

3 clicks

I got the same message. Make sure the gas cap clicks 3 times after filling up. That should clear it up in a day or two.

This question is asked every 2 weeks.....please search next time

And why don't you want to call? They would have read the appropriate page on the owner's manual to you ;-P
