Thin body structure

The other day I shut my trunk on my 06. I had my hands full and used my elbow to shut the trunk lid and it left a dimple in the top of the lid. I've done this many times with other Hondas with no problems but I can't believe the metal is that thin on the TSX. Also I'm disappointed with the paint quality as I've gotten a number of minor chips on the leading edge of the hood.

Anyone else have this problem?

Either your hands must be full of gym weights or you have a strong elbow.

Before getting my 06 TSX I had read several posts where owners had discussed about paint chips on the leading edge of the hood. That made me decide to get the clear bra. So far, so good.

Sorry to hear about your trunk lid. So far mine is dimple free although I haven't put it through the elbow test yet.

Wow! You must've slammed her down pretty hard. The later edge of the trunk is actually pretty strong since that part of the sheet metal is curved.

Im not sure thats body structure- weak sheet metal sure, but not body structure.

Honda's have always had really thin sheet metal, but this is much better than any previous Honda/Acura I have owned.

You can't really see the dimple unless you know its there and are looking for it. BTW, I now use the little plastic handle on the inside of the trunk and don't touch the outside lid. Live and learn.

The Rock was at my house and he did the "People's Elbow" on my trunk
He was apologetic after, but it was a rather unfortunate event

i use the inner handle too but sometimes I close the the trunk on my arm when I try to close it very lightly


anyone notice light scratches along the inner edge of the trunk lid ?

I really didn't push down that hard. The dimple is not very perceptible except to obsessive-compulsive car-aholics like me.

Dont know anything about sheet metal but paint chips was a huge problem for me on the front end. I ended up geting the front of the car repainted by Acura because the chips lead to a lot of rust. Whatever you do spend the money for the 3M bra, well worth it. I had the bra installed after the paint job and have had no problems since

Unfortunately my clearbra installer didn't cover the leading edge of the hood. I'm not sure what to do about that. The guy used a specific design instead of doing it custom. I woulda paid more for a custom fit if I knew it was an option, argh.

I usually use the ledge below the license plate. There's an inner handle? Why would you design a handle inside the trunk? That seems to put you in an awkward position to grab it and pull it and get your arm from out of there before the trunk closes on it.

Maybe if you're old and slow.

It just takes a little getting used to. You pull down hard enough to slam (gently) the trunk and release and pull back before the trunk swings all the way down. It takes a little coordination.

I feel for ya, because there's a depression of the hood of my Mazda Protege - the metal must be thinner these days. Since the only people to open the hood of my cars are the deal service guys and myself, and I know I didn't do it... The Mazda people said they teach their guys to "drop the hood" (I watch them service some cars and saw that it was too, but ...). My mark is actually two, in the middle of the hood, where the pads on the right hand below the thumb and pinky left impressions.

So, two hands, one on each side of the hood, and I check my car BEFORE it goes into the shop.

Hmm, I've always been gentle about closing the trunk, and I've been using the lower edge below the license plate. Parents have Cadillacs that autoclose when you get the lid down far enough, no need to slam. In fact slamming, it got us kids a quick reminder not to do so!

Would be a neat mod to do btw =)

And all this time, I've just been pushing down on my spoiler or back corner. Huh.

About the front, I put the film/clear-bra on right away. My previous car, also a Honda, got a couple of chips, and it just seems like a common place for 'em. Not to mention the occasional swarm of "love bugs". I figured I'd buy some "insurance".

Honda uses thing sheet metal. I've had a Paintless Dent Removal guy compare it to smoothing out tinfoil with a hammer. I know a couple of Integra owners that have had the same dimples on the hatch. Look up PDR in the phone book, it's pretty cheap to get the dent removed.

How so? I'm a righty, but I routinely use my left hand to close the trunk using the handle because my right is full of stuff.

The trunk handle works great. Doesn't take any coordination at all, and is a very well thought out item, IMO. Keeps nasty fingerprints off my freshly waxed trunk deck.
