Is there a temporary override for the LCD display mode?

California now has a law that head lights must be turned on while driving in rain even during daytime.

One annoying thing I noticed is that the night display mode during daylight even in overcast is unreadable.

I am aware of changing the display mode from the setup menu, voice command or pushing down the joystick, but it would be nice if the mode change was only temporary like the 'off' button on the auto-dimming rear view mirror.

Anyone figured out a hack/workaround for this yet?

turn the little knob near your tach to the right and it will beep when your lights are on. it is the manual override for the autodim. turn it a little to the left and it will re-engage auto dimming. if lights are off, you will not hear a beep.

Thanks for the succinct info. That is exactly what I needed to figure out

I guess I am guilty of not comprehending the relationship in the following references:
o Page 71 on the Nav manual did not mention the Select/Reset knob trick.
o Page 122 on the Owner's manual did not mention that the brightness control also affects the Nav LCD panel.

I hope all noobs learned a valuable lesson in researching & correlating all available info before posting a question here

Can't you just set the mode to DAY instead of AUTO or NIGHT in the menu?

Its in the manual... somewhere. I read it and use it for long trips where I drive with headlights on for safety and extra visibility (for other people to see me, not for me to see with).

Actually I find myself twisting that little guy a fair bit... rain, trips, etc. It helps that I like the night setting only 2 clicks below DAY so its no biggie.

How about people just being polite and not calling him a noob for not reading the manual?

We're all enthusiasts here, some more than others, but I don't expect everyone to actually read the manual cover to cover.
