Tear in Leather

Daym...when I got into my car this morning, I took a glance in the back seat and there was a tear in the leather. Is the leather in the TSX really weak? I just had this car for about only 3 weeks. Wells, I took it to the dealer today and they said that they won't replace it because tears are not covered under warranty. They are willing to get it repaired though so I have to bring the car back to the dealer on Thurs. I hope they do a good job to repair it.

Did it look like a manuf. defect? What do you think caused the tear? Having not sampled all the leather seats in the world, I would say the TSX leather is holding up much better than the leather in my previous Jeep GC. However I like the leather in my roommate's 325xi better...

Actually... believe it or not... the seats in the 325 are "fake" leather.
Unless it actually says "leather seats" on the sticker. It's "leatherette" on bmws.
Just keep that in mind. lol

But it's good stuff. Sure fooled me... and i used to sell furniture too.

looks like a crack but they said something sharp cut into the leather. Within the three weeks I had the car, only 2 people sat on that seat so I really don't know what happened. I guess I'll see how it comes out on thurs when they get it repaired.

Maybe his friend's got the real leather because one can definitely get real leather seats on 3ers, just costs one more leg on top on the leg and arm BMW already costs

Oh ViEtNiGGiE, sorry to hear about your leather damage.

You got pix to show how it looks? Before and after repair? Please keep us posted on how much it costs to fix too...

I guess that pretty much narrows it down then.

It's conceivable the dealer sliced it removing the plastic during dealer prep.

MOST of the 325's are "leatherette" unless you specifically request that you want a leather one. Most won't requst one because they "assume" what they are looking at is leather.
I'm not bashing the 325, like i said it's good stuff and it sure had me fooled.

I know what you were saying already... no one thougth you were bashing 325... even if you were, no one would really care here on AZ land

And I did NOT assume mine were leather when I bought my 325i, I know they were leatherette (aka pleather). Have you seen the leather used on 3er (on those who REQUESTED it on 325's)? The leather is really way better than the pleather and I just don't see how the pleather could have fooled you as a furniture expert?

It wasn't like i was critiquing (sp?) the leather or anything. When i was at the dealer, just a first hand glance and sitting in it for a few minutes. I didn't even realize that it wasn't leather. I guess it's subconsciously you expect a 30-40k car to have leather in it already, especially a BMW. You aren't even paying attention most of the time.

Usually with furniture i can tell in a few seconds whether or not it's leather.
