Stupid Guy with an A4
Stupid Guy with an A4
I went into Panera tonight with a few friends to grab a bite to eat. I was wearing my TSX hat and I set my keys down on the counter. The guy goes "You drive a TSX?" I reply "yeah" and he goes "Oh, well I drive a 2005 A4... I raced an RSX up in Maine and I SMOKED it... My car is STRAIGHTfrom Europe except the steering is on the correct side for American roads... the car is so fast that I don't know how to handle it sometimes... I find myself going like 160 sometimes." I just stood there in shock at this guys ignorance and stupidity. Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no way that an A4 goes 160 mph...
I asked what size engine it was and he says 2.0/Automatic...
Yea, 160 mph and the car is STRAIGHT from Europe... obviously it is, genius
Just thought I'd share how truly ignorant some people are.

might make it if it was a MT, i got my tsx at 140+ mph before, but wouldnt do it again, cars that arent designed for that kind of speed incl. a4 cant be driven at those speeds for any length of time safely (i.e. wind gusts, road imperfections, steering too light make driving too challenging, aside from the other concerns like killing yourself). i did it once just to see if the needle could be buried, succeeded, regreted, never did it again.
if he says he goes 160 w/o noticing, he's full of shit. wouldnt worry though, his car will breakdown long before yours

Your TSX doesn't do 160?
Anyone who "[finds themselves] doing 160" is not only ignorant, but completely retarded. Saying you can do 160 without noticing is like saying you can screw a chicken instead of a woman without noticing. I find myself doing 80+ sometimes without realizing it, but only because the TSX feels so much more solid at that speed than any other car I've driven. The TSX feels the same doing 110 (not that I have done 110 in my TSX
) as my old car did doing 60. But 160...you'd have to "find yourself" flooring it for a minute or so to even approach that speed.

the only thing he "find himself doing" is himself in the ass. with his head.
ROFL next time reply with a "lets test out our cars, i find myself hitting 160 as well"
HAHAHAA you'll smoke that foo np man even if he has a A4 haha.
After you dust his ass give him the "yeah, mine came straight from Japan, and I always handle it nicely!" ^___^

DMBand, ive gotten it to 240 kph, which is ~150 mph, i dont know what the needle goes to in US market cars. doesnt really matter though, needle is prob inaccurate at that speed anyway

A4 owner still around
Coming back for another smackdown
I think the A4 owners book said something about the car kicking into some kind of limiter at around 130.
I've only gone 90 in my A4. Wuss, I know. Just passed the 600 mile break in though.
And in a big "I told you so" if you guys care to say it, I'm going to bring it in to the dealer today. The driver's seat creaks like an old rocking chair everytime my weight shifts. And it's f'ing annoying. (Decided I can't live with it after I drove through Joshua Tree National Park on dec 29. Starting in cottonwood and ending in 29 palms. A FANTASTIC ROAD! 40 mile windy road with absolutely no one on it. No ice or mountain to worry about either. Highly recommended for so cal TSX owners. Note: there's a $10 park fee.
Other than that, and the tiny side mirrors which I think are dangerous, and the back window defogger that actually has 3 VERTICAL lines that make looking through rear view really distracting in daylight hours...
Let the bludgeoning commence!

To top it off, I'll keep my alarm and keys in plain sight and wave it constantly, When someone asks me, "So, you drive a TSX?"
I'll reply, "No -- what gave you that idea?"

No, I would not wear one either.
My parents bought me the hat for Christmas. It was the only one in my room when I ran out... I agree, it does look kind of tacky but whatever... I like it :shurg:
I wanna go back in there and ask the stupid ass if we can test out our cars... I'd love to show him up.

Idiot
There is no car in production that feels safe in excess of 110-125. Even a sports car that costs upwards of 70,000$ won't. (street legal). Everyone knows AUDI cars have a plethra of problems beyond imagination. You're driving a car that will last 250,000 or 300,000 miles, and has few problems, no matter if you drive it hard once in a while.
If I had an AUDI, I would grandpa that car to death for fear of the problems with it. i thought everyone who drove an AUDI was a grandpa? Guess things have changed.

ummmmm, yeah, i've seen PLENTY of cars that feel fine around 125. My friends 1992 SHO, you really could tell what speed you were doing beyond 130, even 140 felt "slow" if you knew how to drive. it was a lot of car, so you knew you were going quick, but you'd never guess that far over 100.
my dad's 1989 528i, every mile over 65 feels like the car is gripping the road BETTER. we've taken that upwards of 125 on a highway that was almost built as a racetrack, people fly on this road in northeast pa, it has banked turns, it's great. anyways, it didn't feel that fast.
and those two arent even that great as far as examples go. the mustang svt above 100.......that's a dream, love that experience. wish i could get into a new one and try it out, as the latest svt i've been in at those speeds is a 1999. feels so good.
and yeah, autobahn, i had cars passing me, and i was doing 90. the cars passing me, well, i don't think i could tell you what they were, cause it was litterally just a flash of color. did get a glimpse of a ferrari doing at least 125, as he blew by me real quick at 90.
oh, what i would give for a road like that here!
Interesting autobahn story...ok a tiny bit off topic.
I hadn't driven stick in over 8+ years the first business trip I took the Germany. I had rented a AT car but when I got there all they had was MT. So after stalling umteen times in the parking garage I got out onto the autobahn. Everything was fine once I was in 5th gear (I think I was driving a Ford product). However, I eventually came to a hill and up till then I hadn't left 5th gear. Well.. let's just say I messed up and ended in neutral....as cars zipped pass me... slammed it into 3rd.....and started accellerating. Yah so don't buy rental MT cars from Europe
However, the whole experience got better over the 2 weeks I was there and I wanted a MT car the next time I bought one....and I bought a 01 Prelude... miss MT now with my AT TSX but the wife needs the ability to drive my car with the kid and all.

These guys are nowhere near the "autobahn". Find the nearest freeway and ask yourself if you can go 160 and have full control over your car for an extended amount of time.
Kind of unrealistic, isn't it?
Just like people who drive simple commuter cars and wear the matching HAT. They ought to make leather TSX jackets, too.
Some guy with a pos audi ticked you off. Get over it.

most roads, certainly right. there are some roads though.
Thats an awsome story. I memorize car facts just to make people look dumb when they make this sort of claim. You should have told him that is a nice story, good thing your an off duty cop or he would have some additional explaining to do.

Biker, who would estimate that the avg. speed in the unrestricted sections of Autobahn is around 80-90mph.

and it's not that it's a special road, but they did seem to maintain it better.

Also read that the surface is 2x as thick as your average american interstate, presumably to keep the surface from breaking up easier due to water/ice expanding and contracting.
Honestly though I think the major difference between the Autobahn and a US interstate is the people driving on it.
In addition to much better road maintenance than US highways, the Autobahn has the advantage of cops who do what cops SHOULD: monitor traffic infractions besides speed. Tailgating, using the left lane for anything besides passing, etc.
The other two advantages the autobahn has over American highways has to do with the cars and people on it:
(1) German cars in general are much safer than American cars. Jettas may have a lot of flaws, but they're so much safer than Cavaliers that it isn't even funny.
(2) German driving culture frowns on doing things like eating, using a cell phone, applying makeup, shaving, reading, or watching TV while driving. Unfortunately, some of these are downright pervasive in the US, and none are unheard of.
