Yes. I switched to Bridgestone Pole Positions (AS) and dropped about 2-3 mpg. Kinda sucks, but they are better tires.

How do the new tires cause a reduced MPG? 2-3 mpg droppage seems extreme for limited benefits in return. Will I only apreciate fancy tires when pulling unnecessarily hard turns?

Because the OEM tires have a very low rolling resistance.

The OEM tires are also grand touring tires, whereas the Pole Positions are high performance tires.

Do the fancy tires wear down as quickly as the OEM tires? DO you perceive a difference when casualy driving to work or do you have to tear around corners to notice?

I would consider the OEM tires as fancy for what they are selling them for, the horrible ride, noise, pissy performance, WEAR(I had to replace at 25K) all of that for a few more MPG, $200+?! They're a LOT more BETTER options out there. Changing to a good tire like the Kumho would provide a WAYYY better all around tire (at more than half the price I might add)! But you will lose a few MPG.

Exactly. For $200 each, you'd think the OEM tires would be good, right? They're Michelins afterall. However, I had to replace mine at just 30k miles because even though they weren't down to the wear markers, they had started screeching around normal turns and when starting from a stop, like at a light. I was afraid to drive in the rain with them, so when fall came around, I swapped out to snow tires. Then in the spring, I bought the Pole Positions. Even though I really wish I got the same mpg as the OEMs, I'm happy with my choice. We'll see how long they last. I've got about 11k on them now and no problems.

Oh yeah, and the Pole Positions are quieter. I noticed this when I had an '07 loaner with OEM tires on it.

Well, remember that your MPG (as related to tires) will depend on the resistance of the tire to the road, it's grip, and it's weight (especially since it's unsprung weight where ounces actually make a difference).

I've always liked Michelins and don't have a problem with the OEMs. I actually just bought a set of Michelins for the fiancee's ride (much better than the Bridgestones that were on there). BTW, the Michelins I had on my Civic lasted me 50K miles and they still could've taken another 20K, easy, but I traded her in.

I always liked Michelins too, and had them on my other 2 cars. They lasted a long time (over 80k). But that's also why I was so disappointed with the ones that are OEM on the TSX. They were louder, not as grippy, and lasted not even half the amount of time my previous Michelins did, plus they were much more expensive! They do make good tires, though, I just don't think our OEM tires are one of their better products.
