Stock Diffused vs. Focused Maplights
Stock Diffused vs. Focused Maplights
I've done a search of the archives and have found several threads talking about changing out the TSX's stock interior courtesy/maplights in the front, courtesy lamp in the back seat and "puddle" lamps on the doors. Most deal with changing the color of the lamps to blue LED's or to "superwhite" LED bulbs.
In my opinion, the one thing that the TSX lacks is "classy" interior lighting. The lighting is much too bright and diffused. My old 1997 Ford Explorer (yes a lowly non-luxury SUV) had very classy, focused interior lighting i.e. the beam of light was a spotlight, rather than diffused. I think a focused beam looks so much better than diffused.
To those of you that have changed the light bulbs out to LED bulbs (white LED's, not blue): Does this change make the light more focused, or is it still diffused? I'm guessing it would still be diffused, because this is a factor of the lens covering the bulb and the type of bulb might not make a difference.
I guess the other choice would be a dimmer bulb. Are there LED lamp replacement that are maybe half the brightness of the original bulbs?
Thanks for all your help on this site.

I have blue regular lights in the maplights, rear ceiling light and door lights........very ambient, which matches the original interior lighting. But considering changing the door lights to LED so they will be brighter to see outside better.................
im real sorry to make a comment and feel free to call me names for it, but i cant help myself...
i absolutely can not believe there is actually a thread on here regarding the map lights being diffused as opposed to spotlight-formed. talk about paying attention to too much. who even notices or thinks about something like that?!
acurazine can now officially use the tagline 'no topic is uncovered!'
