Stick shift shift knob question.

Is there a locking nut under the shift knob?

The car I bought doesnt have one and the # on the shift knob is not in the middle. The sales guy said he'd take care of it by unscrewing and applying some sticky stuff that will thead it in and stick properly, but be straight.

Thanks!
