SS incentives

I was thinking to myself the other day while getting the ever so rare chance to drive our PWP 5AT how to consume the least amount of gas possible. I thought, well, in a mt, keeping the revs low would help. I remembered that I had SS, because this wasn't my usual '97 Grand Caravan:whatbish:. Just wondering, would the SS mode, not being a true manual, but still able to keep the revs low, allow for better fuel economy if one were to shift earlier than what the computer had set?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the auto was programmed to give just about the best economy. Lugging the car in a too low a gear won't give you any better milage.
