Sport Shift 5AT

Quick question, often when im driving and want to get more of a "kick" on the acceleration i pop the car into sport shift mode, and shift at higher RPM's. However, i dont know how to downshift with it, so ill just plop it back into automatic mode, and at times, i tend to undershift in sport mode, and when i go back into AT mode, the car speeds up all byitself to compensate for me shifting at lower RPMS then the car is set for. Is this bad that i only use it in short "bursts"..?

short shiftng wont hurt the car.it will still downshift automaticaly in ss mode, if your rpms are too high it wont let u down shift to protect the drivertrain so dont worry about it the shifter is pretty idiot proof.also it will not let you shift passed 2nd if the car is stopped so the engine wont bog out.

hmm maybe this is a good place to post this then.

when i try to downshift the gears jump. not so bad until u get into second and then from 2nd to first its real bad. when i vary braking its not as bad, but should i be puttin the revs up? its prolly something simple im not catching onto.

yeahh i never drove mt before, so the sport shifting i do is more or less a variation on all the racing games ive played.

so ure saying just shift down later, wait till im going slower?

When I drive in SS mode, which is most of the time. I downshift at higher RPM's knowing it won't downshift if I'm at too high an RPM. Seems to work better for me. Also, when upshifting, try to be into the throttle. If the throttle is held steady the shift suffers, if you shift while mashing the gas, the shift is much faster. Maybe it's a combination of the DBW throttle and the SS.

yeah just downshift to 1 right before you've stopped.
you'll get a big jolt if you're still moving faster than 20-30km/h and you shift to first gear.
my advice is, just let the car downshift to 1st gear by itself....just don't forgot to keep your hand on the shifter to shift to 2nd gear when you start again....most of us have done that cause we just simply forgot . Good thing i had lots of practice with the vw passat.

The car will only downshift to 1 by itself if you come to a complete stop. Sometimes I do rolling stops and whoops, I'm still in 3rd. That's when you should downshift.

Come on it's not rocket science.

You don't have to come to a complete stop, but pretty close. And yes, this is far from rocket science.

IIRC from the manual, it is ~ 6 mph.

5AT guy here too, guessing from some of these threads most of u are kids (im 18 too) who dont drive stick shifts, U dont wanna shift into 1st untill ur either allmost or at a complete stop...Sport Shift is great, It shifts pritty rough sometimes though esp the 1st to second, dont know about the 6MT but first is pritty touchy,

Overall not a bad transmission, just needs a clutch lol
