Sound deadening the TSX

First off, I ordered the RAAMaudio kit Package #1 which was plenty. I essentially followed the instructions found on the RAAMaudio website (here).

I cleaned the inner part of the outer door skin with denatured alcohol, then applied RAAMat. I used the thunk test to determine where to apply it or double it up.

I double it up behind the speaker then put a 8" x8" square of Ensolite on top (sorry no pics of this step).

I used butyl rubber rope (3M from Amazon) and plexiglass to seal off the openings in the door:

I taped the edges of the plexiglas to the door panel with foil tape (paying close attention to making the door as air tight as possible. Trying to emulate an "infinite baffle" as much as possible).

I applied RAAMAt to the inner part of the outer skin and the inner part of the inner skin. I was aiming for 50% coverage on each.

The panel when the RAMMat was done (sorry for the blurry pic):

Finally, I applied Ensolite to the entire door.

Yep, that's the fenderwell liner. Dirty, isn't it?

Nice and clean now (Simple Green works great for this, by the way)

First bit of Ensolite:

Butted the next piece of Ensolite right up to the first piece

Finished it up using odd leftover bits

As far as the doors, I sealed/closed off all of the openings in the door skin, so the most noticeable difference was an improvement in the mid-bass response of the woofers. Road noise wasn't reduced by a lot, maybe 15-20%...

I used a sound level app on my phone to measure the car before the job. I'll do it again and compare db numbers and post up the results.

The average sound level (before deadening) on the highway @ 70mph was ~78db.

Nice! There were a handful of people on the forum who did this too. 15-20% reduction in road noise isn't a huge difference but at least you can tell a little bit.

But being lowered with low profile tires i think most people on the forum just have to deal with road noise.

Agreed. My primary reason for doing this was to eliminate the tinny door sound when the door is closed, and I wanted better sound from the speakers. The reduction in road noise was a bonus.

Nice! I've been planing on doing this as well. I think my main issue is the Raptor tires on my car (I guess they're cheap?) but road noise is worse then our previous '98 Accord LX.. and that says A LOT.

I'm planning on dynamating every thing. All 4 doors, Trunk, possibly wheel wells (not sure how much that helps) but I think most of the noise comes from the windows/ roof.

When I'm doing about 45, the road noise is pretty harsh, but if i move my head toward the center of the car more (above arm rest between front seats) noise is reduced a lot.

So hopefully I can get the car to be a bit quieter.
