a small rant...

How come where the electrical outlet is in the TSX they have an ugly bright orange tray that says "NOT AN ASHTRAY"???
I think that a simple sticker that you could remove would have done the trick. This is just annoying.

Can the dealerships install an ashtray instead? I saw that suggestion in the other thread, but they actually have that? I wouldn't smoke in my car, but that would look alot better than the orange thing.
This is the kind of crap you have to see when laywers file too many lawsuits.

Acura knows that most cars in the US are leased.

They prefer that you not smoke in leased cars because it impairs value. So they do everything possible to discourage it. The "ashtray as accessory" is pretty common, usually it's managed by an ashtray insert to the cupholder.

Some car companies have tried "no smoking" clauses in their leases, with penalties if "deodorizing" is necessary, but this has been challenged in some states and is really tough to enforce in any case.

Frankly, the manufacturers also realize that 80-90% of Americans who can afford this car don't smoke, and end up using the ashtray as a storage container anyway. (In my past two cars, the ashtray was where I put the garage remote -- Homelink takes care of that now.) I do wish they would pick a less obnoxious color though. It would be fine if it were grey or black felt , to match other elements of the interior.

Yup, that's exactly what I use it for. I use it for pennies, since there's no slot for those in the change holder in the armrest.

Even if there is an ashtray, they can smoke elsewhere. If they want to smoke, they can get the f**k out of my car.

I wish that it wasn't red though.

You would think they would at least make it match the interior...

Doesn't really bother me. Its fun to show friends and see their reaction to it. I never have that slot open though, I used the power outlet in the armrest.

If they didn't put the "Not An Ashtray" sticker in there, I would bet some smoker would use it as an ashtray, start a fire, and sue Acura. It does not take a rocket scientist to think the red felt just might catch fire. But there are people that want to blame everything bad that happens to them on everyone but themselves. That is why if you buy a ladder it comes with a hundred ways a ladder should not be used. Each one represents a way it was used and they ended up getting sued.

I also put my cell phone there sometimes, it fits perfectly if I just toss it antenna first in there.
