Shouldn't Hondata be bad for the engine???

On the RSX's it raises the redline from 8000 to 8500 rpm.... so the computer raised the rev limiter... but can the actual engine be able to handle that much revs? what makes it safe to rev over what the engine was built to redline at from the factory just because you have a computer chip? i dont get it at all.....

Actually, Honda engines are more than capable of handling a few hundred more revs than normally allowed from the factory. The reason for keeping the rev limit where it is right now simply leaves a margin of error.

That and things like valve springs and retainers dont necessarily perform properly at higher revs. The TSX is an example of a car that can develop some valve float above 7500rpm...at least from what I've read.
