Question Setting Alarm without Horn

Although the owner's manual does not mention it, is there any way that Acura service technicians can change the alarm system on the TSX so that the horn does not sound when setting the alarm by pushing the "lock" button twice? My salesman had no idea.

When you push the lock button it locks the door and sets the alarm. Pushing it a second time only relocks the doors and honks the horn for verification.

Arming alarm w/out horn = pushing button once.

When you push it the first time, I believe it also flashes the parking and tail lights, like when unlocking it too. That way you can see that it locked.

A nice digital sounding beep would be nice. Or at least a smart chirp. I think this has been talked about before.

As the others mentioned, alarm is set on first press.

But that "verification" horn is kinda annoying. The "normal" alarm beep would be best. But if we have to settle for the horn why couldnt it be a chirp? I had a new grand prix as a rental the other day, and when you locked the car is chirped the horn. Very quick, and subtle.

The first push of the lock button locks the doors but isn't there a 30 second delay to set the alarm? The second push of the lock button sets the alarm immediately and confirms with a beep of the horn.

Same here. I miss the cool digital beep that my CL-S had when you locked the door twice with the key fob. Does anyone know if there's an easy way to change the sound of the alarm system's beep?

I think I read it in the owners manual. I'll have to double check.

The alarm arms on the first push. The 30 secs. is for the doors to relock if you unlock with the fob, but don't actually open a door. It's a little annoying because I can't unlock the doors and pop the trunk at the same time, since the doors relock as I'm loading the trunk.

To avoid the doors from relocking. Don't use the unlock trunk button, but rather unlock the doors, which will unlock the trunk, so you can use the button mounted under the overhang over the license plate.

I agree...the beep is WAAY better. The RL gives a nice digital beep--once when you lock, twice when you unlock.

Has anyone has heard the previous generation BMW 5-series or 7-series lock/un-lock confirmation. By far, this is the coolest one...does a wierd little whistle sound. A friend of mine calls it R2D2

Ok, its been about 3 years out on this one, but i know there are a few posts on this already so i'm just adding... I want to disable this horn 'verification' to so that I can add the kp technologies module that does the electronic beep. Anyone ever found out a way to do this?

thanks.

My '07 beeps, must be mid model change they failed to mention. Even still it doesn't make a sound unless you press lock twice, and the second press is usualy unnecessary anyway.

04/05 is horn. It's the 06+ that got the beep.

Our 04 honda odyssey has a horn...we use it to scare off the stray cats that try to sleep on the hood.

As for disconnecting the horn from an 04's alarm...I don't think it's been done. You'll have to find out which wire the alarm uses to sound the horn. The problem would be when the alarm is actually set off...it won't honk the horn but beep your beep.

Well, mine beeps, I'm not kidding. It's an '05. There may have been a mid-year change, but I'm just saying not ALL '05s will do the horn. Unless mine is an '06 without bluetooth and with the '04/'05 MFD on the dash...

Am I the only person with an '05 that beeps??

Unfortunately, it doesn't digitally beep twice when you're unlocking/disarming like most other cars do.

Confirmed, Houston, '06 and later has a beep on the second button-press. My first week of ownership, someone said, "Wow, that's very discreet." It's also helpful since in broad daylight (is there such a thing as slim daylight?), the lights are not easy to see. But I can hear the beep from inside a building or 50' away.

Disabling
At least for the '06 I have, with the whatchamacallit James Bond information, remote bad buy tracking, mission control MPG computation display 'tween the tach and speedo, you can disable the "lock announcement." Neither a blink nor a beep. Very stealthy.

Don't have the manual with me, don't recall the specific name. But if you look in your manual, you'll find it. Page one hundred forty something...?

Do you really want that? I prefer to do the double-lock "beep" if I can't see/find my car in a lot (new owner syndrome). Panic button if I'm in the next county.

Ditto. I must confess that this is news to me (also the button above the license plate to open the trunk). Until last April, this was my wife's car (she got the new TSX). Of course I read the owners manual when we got it (April 05), but I don't recall coming across either of these trivia items. Don't remember seeing them in the manual for the 07 either, so either I'm not paying attention (most likely) or they're not in there (unlikely).

Of course this also begs the question, why would you push the lock button twice? (We've had the car since April 05 and neither of us were aware of the feature). And the car was/is used (and locked) every day.

I can't quote the manual, but it describes it in detail. As mentioned, I think it's a) the beep to give you an audio confirmation (like, if you're around the corner, or can't see the parking lights,) and b) arms the security system immediately. James Bond appreciates these details, I'm sure, when he's escaping bad guys.

Cool

Just for giggles, I tried the lock button while I was walking up to the parking garage at work; late, no one else around. My TSX was on the second level, my side of the building. It beeped. That's good range.... Also a good reminder of why a beep/honk is handy -- audible feedback if you're locking from a distance, or through a building.

^ werd, otherwise it's a 30 sec or 1 min delay till the security system is armed..

also gives you confirmation that nothing is open... i.e. if you press the lock button and the trunk isn't closed properly the doors will still lock... but the second time you press the lock button if the truck isn't closed properly it will not beep

^ Yep. Love that I can adjust the delay before relocking.

^ I tried that "no beep" last night. Works for the trunk being open, but it does beep on the second lock press if the sunroof is open. I guess leaving your roof open is something you'd notice, unlike the trunk being cracked or a door on the far side not fully closed. Just a hunch.
