sell my accord, buy a tsx??
Hi guys. First of all i'd just like to say that i love this site. Everyone is so welcoming and considerate on this forum i feel very comfortable reading about everyone's posts (unlike freshalloy where everyone gets so defensive over their nissans/infinitis). I finally decided to join this place.
anyway, first of all i don't own a TSX although i really like/want the car. I drive a 98 Accord EX and think it's time to get a car of my own. I've been seriously thinking of selling it and getting a TSX sometime next year but my question is...is it a good move considering im bascally getting another accord?

I think so, TSX Imo is in its own class, it has a higher refinement than accord alot more fun to drive, take it out for a spin and see for yourself, the extra money is worth it, but it all depends on your budget.
good luck

i've test driven the car and love the car's appearance inside and out. I was so sure this would be my next car till some friends asked me y i would want another "accord" that uses a 4-cylinder engine wen i can pay a lil more for a higher-class g35 or audi a4. but i ur right about the refinement and overall package u get for the money

Welcome to the board, this has been discuss time & time again and it always comes down to your choice/preference:
Do I want better handling, first rate interior/exterior, decent acceleration & a prestigious name to go w/ it? then get the TSX
or do I want a fast straight line acceleration(v6), not so better handling, very decent interior(way better than infinity) & on the exterior (you can judge for your self)? then get the accord
anyhow IMO you can't go wrong w/ either of them.

Not to be a dick but doesn't anyone ever use the search button anymore? This topic is talked about OVER and OVER and OVER again.
Again (and again), it comes down to your preference. Are you happy with your car? Are you ready for the new car payments? Are you ready to move on to another vehicle?
Shop around and dont let your friends decide what car you get. Get what you want to get. It's your money and you'll be driving it not them. Test drive whatever cars interest you, evaluate different aspects of owning each car (fuel economy, price, etc) and decide what you would be most happy with. Good luck!

Honda will be the first to tell you about how people will by an Accord to replace their aging Accord! And yes, I agree that the TSX is different enough. What are you going to do, force yourself to get something you dont like?

I was in the same boat. Had a 94 Accord and it was still working very well. Couldn't decide between the TSX or the TL. Finally went with the TSX and I am glad I did. For a four cylinder car it has lots more that the Accord did and its drive is much better - the best way to describe it is that it has a tight drive. I've had the car for 4 months now and continue to be impressed. I'm glad I got it.

Sometimes, a friend's point may not be right. Ask yourself if you like the car, and if so, why not go ahead.
Before I bought mine, one of my autocross buddy told me why just get (basically) an Accord. Now he is quite impressed with the ability of the car, both on the street and autocross.

I too traded in my '00 Accord V6 coupe and have found the TSX to be 100 times better (for not that much more money). I had several significant problems with the Accord POS and had to think hard about another Honda product, but I'm sure glad I did. Nothing against Ohio but the build quality in Japan seems to be noticeably better. BTW I had 23k on the Accord and I got $13k for it.

Parent's proposal
In the asian culture, parent's opinions count a lot so I discussed my car options with my father (a retired mechanic) and mom. Only been out of graduate school for a couple of years so the TSX is just above my budget and I was leaning toward a Accord. After discussion they came out with the proposal that I could purchased their 2003 Accord EX V-6 Leather for the money I would have spent on the 04 LX V-4 (which WAS in my budget) so they could get the TSX, which interested them a great deal. It's a pitty that the TSX had not been out when they purchased thier Accord. It's a great offer, however, I like the TSX a lot. Decisions, decisions!!!

I traded a '99 Accord Ex 5-speed 4-cylinder sedan for the TSX. No comparison. While the Accord is slightly bigger inside, especially the back seat, my 2 kids don't complan. The upgrades are well worth it - throughout the entire car. That said, the gas mileage of a 5-sp Accord is unbelievable. You will notice it, but to me the deal is a no-brainer. It is that much better. Good luck.

We dumped our 2002 Nissan Altima SL 5 speed for the TSX. My wife was not in favor of purchasing a new car with the Altima only having 24000 miles on it. But after driving the TSX with the 6 speed, it was no contest. The car is strong and solid. The 175 hp Altima engine was great, but closing the doors on the Altima was like putting the lid on a galvanized trash can. We couldn't stand it any longer. I came to the realization that closing the door on the Altima was the same thing as putting a lid on a trashcan. :flamer:

how is the gas mileage on the TSX versus the new Accord 4-bangers? Are they about on par? I've been very frustrated with the way my Accord's been eating up fuel. I avg like 19-20 mpg which includes 50% highway driving. That is horrible considering my parent's Maxima gets about the same and that car has V6...

close but not exactly. the NA TSX uses the European Accord Type S (actually the Accord Executive) as the starting point. You will notice that the TSX has a little bit more hp than the European Accord Type S. I believe it's 10hp.
