Seeing a ferrari in person

Today when I got home, I notice a bunch of people forming a circle around my neighbor's drive way. So i went to check it out, and there it was. A brand new 2003 red ferrari 360 Modena Berlinetta. It was beautiful!!!!! I don't know how he afford it, but all I know is that it made me very jealous .Anyway, just wanted to share the experience.

when he's laying in a rest home wishing that someone would change his soiled diaper... he'll wish he had saved for his retirement more wisely.

My dad worked hard and saved for his retirement, and promptly died two weeks after his last day at work. I'm not saying to not consider the future, but don't be afraid to live today either, it's all about balance.

One thing I do say is, don't judge other people's choices. He may end up homeless or wrapped around some tree but....he owned a Ferrari for at least a day, and that is cool.

My parents also saved hard and hoped for the pension to come through. Never did and now they are old and haven't "lived" like they should have. It sucks being old and having all those regrets.

Could be he rented it for the weekend or something. You''ll soon know if its gone in a few days.

Maybe he'll let you take it for a spin?

They are so beautiful. It's art on wheels. A friends of mines father has one. It's a 1997 550 Maranello Black/tan. He rarely drives it, he bought it new and it has less than 1500 miles!!

Talk to the guy. Find out what he does for a living. I'm sure he has something you can learn The best way to become wealthy is surounding yourself with people who have more than you. When I go to my friends house I talk business with his dad. He's a Yale graduate, owns three radio station, a couple dealerships, etc... I think he has alot to offer as a mentor. Just my If you want a Ferrari... I do.

nope. I asked him that, and he said he bought the car for 160,000 + tax. He also said buying a ferrari, you'd have to sign a paper to not sell it within 1-3 years.

I don't see how they could enforce that. Legally speaking.

There was some amazing speculation in Ferraris, particularly the "classic" models and limited production cars when Enzo Ferrari died. The F40 sold for $250,000 and many were then immediately auctioned for up to a $1 million apiece. Ferrari, which designed and built the car in the first place, collected the $250,000 and some speculator who put his name on the waiting list collected the $750,000! So Ferrari began a leasing program the F50. $240,000 down and $5500 monthly. At the end of lease, an option to buy the car for $150,000. Of course you couldn't actually sell the car before the end of the lease.

In the end, as with internet stocks and Beanie Babies, the Ferrari market crashed. There's always some bubble developing, somewhere. (If you know what's going to be the next one, please tell me!)

It may be legal to ask you to sign such a statement if you actually BUY a Ferrari, I just don't know if it's enforcable. It's probably not, but the idea is to discourage speculation. Speculation is not all that much of a problem with the "mass market" $160,000 Ferraris, though.

Good timing with your post. I was driving to lunch yesterday and saw this sweet silver car zip past me. It turned off a couple streets ahead and ended up being a Ferrari. Not sure on the model, I had just enough time to see a glimpse of the horse on the back. (just an odd sighting for this area ... then again I was closer to orlando than usual)

I can't see myself spending that much money on a car, under any circumstances.

Ferrari cannot legally enforce the "do not sell" clause, but they will probably not sell to that person again. I've read a few Car & Driver articles that talk about the perks you gain by doing what Ferrari asks you to when you purchase a new car.

It amazing what a small club of wealthy folks can do. Its almost a secret society kinda thing.

I went to Miami Beach yesterday for the 2003 Herald Hunt. As I was walking around, I saw two Ferraris drive past within a couple blocks. It was enough to turn my head. One a red convertible, the other a yellow coupe. Both hot.

i sort of like seeing the older models, e.g., my son and i were driving to the pumpkin patch and i saw an older (88-ish) Lotus Esprit Turbo approaching in my rearview mirror and just let it pass me before the lanes merged. what fun it was for me to just drive behind and listen to the engine.

On my way home yesterday from SF to LA, I was driving on I-5 and I saw 2 cars in bright orange paint on the opposite direction. When I got closer, they turned out to be an orange Lamborghini (I can never remember the name of the new Lamborghini), followed by a black Lamborghini Diablo, then followed by an orange Lamborghini Diablo. Damn, they looked so nice!!!

That's a good one. I didn't even think of that.

Blah: Glad to hear you went!
I work for The Herald and some of my colleagues organize The Hunt! I've even been ignored by Dave Barry in the cafeteria.

Hope you had fun—it may not happen next year.
