The Search is On!

Hey everyone--
Joined this forum a long time ago, but looking to get a car now. Coming from a family of BMWs, I've found the TSX to be a great car for a new driver like myself (I am in High School). I originally had my heart set on a Subaru Legacy GT, but that didn't work out. So now we're scrambling to find a TSX. I'm looking for a Carbon Gray (or black, silver, royal blue) preferably with nav, and black interior is a requirement. (sorry, just not warming up to the wood in Parchment). I've gotten a few good quotes from local dealers, but the inventory of '08 is going really quickly. There are probably five or so of the one I want, and if we can get it by the end of this month, for under or around $27,000, it will pretty much be a done deal! It's early to talk about mods, but the only thing I think I want to do is a pedal set(The aluminum Acura set). And, unfortunately, it will be an AT.

So, if everything goes well, I'll have a sweet car going into school (it's a birthday present, but I'm picking up some of the tab too) and I look forward to going to some Chi-town meets and hanging around the forums.

I know your probably not going to like hearing this but it is going to be very very difficult to find what your looking for. There are very few 08's left out there (esp w/ nav and manual trans). The exterior black or carbon grey is going to be almost impossible to find.

The '09's came out back in April and the '08s have been going fast! I was very lucky to have found a black 08 with nav at a dealership in New Hampshire (I live in VA). So, I called up and got the last one on the lot for 27,800. They are shipping it down this week. I honestly believe I got one of the last black '08s w/ nav and manual transmission left in the country. It was the only one listed on any car sites (cars.com, autotrader, etc). Good luck tho, and I hope you find what your looking for.

If you don't want a manual, they will definitely be easier to find.

haha I actually said AT (auto) in the first post. I don't want a manual, I'll save that for when I'm older. There are quite a few blacks, and less so gray, but they are there. It seems like a lot of dealers are selling 2+ '08 per day. If all the navs are gone, there are still several silver or black base models and that will be alright. Many dealers still have either demos or service loaners too. I can get a good Garmin for $300. (The voice control of the whole car seems so cool though). I've tried the voice control on my grandma's '04 TL, and it was practically worthless. Is it the same system?
I haven't even driven one yet but I love it!

Oh and good first post! Welcome to AZ.

Parchment interior is the best, anyone who says otherwise just doesn't know what they are talking about.

Black on parchment or royal blue on parchment or white on parch are the best combos (I got royal blue/parchment... I haven't seen anyone else with this combo yet).

Looks 10x more classy than a boring black/quartz interior.

I just did a search on autotrader... there aren't any new 08 w/ Navi within 75 miles of chicago...

I've seen at least 10 or 15 with nav...it doesn't work if you put it in as a keyword, just look for an '08.

I personally like the look of the first generation models 10x more than the '09 model.

i was also going to get a legacy (im also 18) but i decided to screw all that and i bought an 06 for 19k with 34k miles from a friend of a friends. (6mt no Navi, black on CGP) i spent the rest of my budget on fun things. Like tints, drops, intake, exhaust, headers, and the rotora big brake kit. I think if ur willing to lower the standards a bit you can get even more for the same ammount. There are tons of barely used TSX's out there.

haha...I'm younger than 18....
But I understand what you are saying. I'm open to a 2007 or 2008 used TSX, but I'd rather get a new one just because 1) it's new, and I don't have to worry about how the previous owner drove it or took care of it. 2) I can get a pretty good deal 3) I'm not really into mods at all (besides maybe iPod hookup and a pedal set), so I'd rather put the $ towards the car itself. At the dealer I actually saw a Certified '06, black/black non-nav, with about 7,000 miles. It looks nice on paper, but the paint is in horrible condition (I think it needs major work) and they are asking $24,500. Which is about $300-500 less than an identical new one.

Dark Knight: Not at all interested in '09 (no offense to you at all). By the way, what did you pay OTD, if you don't mind?

that's a negative. i test drove the 09 TSX recently, both automatic and manual. although the 08 TSX has 205 hp, while the 09 TSX has 201 hp, the added torque of the 09 TSX has better off the line acceleration than the 1st gen TSX and the turn radius is much better in the 09 TSX too.

i'm still the original old school 04 TSX owner here.

One update:
The TSX did not end up working, instead I got a new '08 VW Jetta Wolfsburg. That is the model with the 2.0t and DSG transmission.
Thanks for the info!

whoa, that was quite a drastic move from a TSX. VW's are great cars, especially coming from a BMW it will have close to the same feel. I just hope reliability is better than it used to be on the Jetta's. Can you post some pics?

Sure. I like it a lot, and while it doesn't have all the gadgets of a TSX, it drives just as good, and has a much better engine and transmission.

Take Care

A Jetta is definately a sub 25 y/o's car. They market the TSX at young 20 somethings but it feels like a 30+ car to me. I feel 50 driving down the interstate in cushy leather with the climate control set to 70, listening to CNN on the XM. All the frills and features are the TSX are a nice little thing to look forward to some day. Please don't drive like other Jetta drivers.

Hmm, I expected more from the Jetta's interior. It's pretty blah IMO. At any rate, good luck and have fun with your car.

I really like how the TSX dash molds continue into the door and seem to wrap around to the sides. Now whenever I see a dash abruptly stop at the doors I lose all respect for it.
