role reversal

We get alot of negative comments on dumb dealers. And they are all deserving. Well here is a different view.

The following took place on Christmas eve

Cust-I would like to drop my car off for service.
Justin-Sir, service dept closed for the day and the back gates are locked up. Didn't the service dept let you know they will be closing at 12 noon today due to Christmas eve?
Cust-No, I didn't know.
Justin-Do you have an appt with the service dept for Friday? If you do I can unlock the gates and pull up a loaner for you.
Cust-Appt? No, i do not have an appt make with the service dept. Can I make one now?
Justin-Actually no sir. Like I said they are closed for the day. And even the sales dept is closed so there are nobody here able to set an appt for you. What type of car do you own and what kind of service do you require?
Cust-I have a 93 integra and need an oil change.
Justin-Sir, we do not provide loaners for service such as oil changes when the work can be completed in 30 mins or less.
Cust-What kind of Acura dealer is this? I thought you guys provide loaners for all types of work.
Justin-Sir, we provide free loaners for services when the service takes more than 30 mins to complete.
Cust-Than how am I suppose drive out to Vegas tonight?
Justin-Beats me.
Cust-You guys suck Im never coming back for service and will never buy from you guys.
Justin- And happy holidays to you too sir.

Some customers, you're better off without.

Wow, so he was going to take a loaner to Vegas while his main ride was getting its oil changed? Must have been in quite a rush to lose some cash.

That is kind of funny how he wanted to go to Vegas, but couldn't wait 30 minutes for an oil change. What do people really think of dealers? Do they think we're morons? Why would we give out a loaner if you were going to go on a road trip in it (especially to another state)? You can tell something is wrong there.

The car's a decade old. Why spend extra money for an oil change at the dealer? (No offense, justin.) Wouldn't a quickie place be adequate?

I think he just wants a nicer car to drive the 750 mile round trip. I took a peek at his car as he was leaving. All riced up and so low I didn't think it can take any bumps at all. There are alot more crazy stories in regards to dealer-cust relationships. This one just happens to be recent and something I was personally involved in. Worth a christmas laugh.

We have 02 Accords, 02/03 Civics, 02/03 RSXs, 02/03TLs, 02CRVs, 03G35 sedans, 02A4 1.8Ts, 03C240s, ML320s in our fleet of loaners.

i think he just meant that he didn't want to take a long trip w/o first getting an oil change, not that he was planning on taking the loaner to vegas.. afterall, a trip to vegas, hanging out there and then coming back would take way longer than any moron could ever think an oil change would take.

No, because he wanted to drop off his car and pick it up Friday. Thats why I asked what kind of service he needed and if had an appt.

Should have just asked him for a picture. "You're our (some number) customer!" Post it on the idiot board in the break room or somewhere at work for others.

If he showed up 30 mins early, he would have driven out with the loaner because the receptionist would still be on shift. And she wouldn't know the difference. Oh well no harm done. I hope he make it to vegas ok.

Wow Justin, those are some nice loaners you have - A4s, G35s and the C240s. I hope my dealership in Oakland has cars like that when I drop of the TSX this Friday to get Lo-Jack installed (5 hours).

I'm surprised you'd give a loaner for a car out of warranty. My Infiniti dealer won't give me one because my '95 G20t is out of warranty, plus I'm under 21.
