Replace 2007 TSX air filter - basic question
Replace 2007 TSX air filter - basic question
OK, I'm almost embarrassed to be asking this. The last time I changed an air filter, it was a simple matter of removing a wing nut, popping off the top cover, and swapping the filters.
I just went out into my 15 degree garage to replace the air filter on my 07 TSX. I figured out that the air filter is in the black case on the right side. I can remove 3 of the 4 screws (wow, you need small hands for this) and the 4th screw is loose (no jokes, please). But then what? I didn't want to force the top cover off. The top cover is connected to the big black hose that goes to the engine. I can lift the cover a little, enough to see the old air filter in there taunting me.
What's the missing step to be able to easily take off the cover to be able to replace the air filter? Thanks!

or 8mm socket too, especially if they are tight on there. That long tube or intake plenum is rather rigid just fyi, but as long as all the bolts are loose then just wiggle it up out of the way.
By the way, you said right side, but on my tsx it's on the left (driver's side) did they relocate them in '07?

OK, I'll give it another wiggle. I just didn't want to force it in case I was missing a step.
You're correct that it's on the driver's side. Left and right just depend on how you're looking at it, I guess. Thanks for the help.

the big hose stays connected.
the box it connects to needs to be lifted off.
if you are looking at the car, and the box is on the right of
the engine bay, then the right side of the black box needs to
be lifted straight up.
consider the big black hose as the hinge side.
the filter will come out and to the right, then go back in from the right.
here... let me find you a picture...

You guys rock! Once I lifted hard enough on the cover, I could see how this is a 5 minute job. In this cold, the big black hose is probably much more rigid than usual. I didn't want to force anything without checking here first.
I cleaned out the leaves and other crud from the case and put in a new filter. I still had the original Honda filter in there, and it wasn't in bad shape for 26K miles. I think I'll wait for spring in order to change the cabin air filter. Thanks again for the help!

Cabin air filter is an easier DIY, costs a little less, and should take less time. Oh, and if you haven't had it changed in 26,000 miles ...
you'd best do it SOON.
