Remove splash guards - damage paint?

I'm looking at two new 2008 TSXs. One dealer is much lower on price, but they've put splash guards on the car and I just don't like the look that much (I know, they serve a purpose).

It looks like they are removable, from what I've seen online. But one thread suggested that the paint could be damaged underneath:

Anyone successfully removed their splash guards? Will this cause paint damage or can you see the screw holes? It will be a 36-month lease, so I'm not too worried about rust in 5 years, etc.

By the end of the weekend I hope to be a new TSX driver! Wish me luck!

I think the damage due to the splash guards is over time, due to the vibration that causes them to rub against the finish. If the car is brand new and hasn't seen too many miles there shouldn't be any damage due to the splash guards. You should be able to remove them, polish and seal the area covered by them, and then be good to go.

check out this thread with my pics and info. they are very easy to remove and you don't see holes. I doubt you'll see damage if the guards haven't been on long.

since the car is brand new-did you ask the dealer to take them off for you. i am pretty sure they would especially if you lease from them. my 06 has them and i do not mind them-kinda looks good with the red and black interior.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like a new TSX shouldn't have any paint problems due to removing the splash guards.

I haven't bought the car yet, so I will ask the dealer to remove them. The dealer puts a "package" of splash guards and all-weather mats on all their TSXs. I'm going to ask him to keep them and take the package price off the car.

Some forum members have also gotten the guards color matched. I think that looks pretty nice, but obviously more $$ than you thought you'd ever spend on splash guards...

Try some Meguiars Scratch-X. I just recently got hit pretty hard on the door (no ding though) by someone parking too close to me. Scratch-X did a pretty good job of getting out the scratches.

Yeah, I just went to take a look this morning by peeling away the front mud guards and saw pretty much the same scratch line on the border where the mud guard covers =T Will try the Megs Scratch X. I'm looking into installing the US A-spec kit in the next couple of weeks.

When I bougth my '06 last August it had splash gaurds installed on all four corners. I removed them about a month later with no visible damage whatsoever - yet some of the screws did strip and are still in the car's fenders.

I took mine off after an alignment shop tore one to pieces...fortunately the splash guards had not been on long enough to cause damage.

They ought to add a line in the owner's manual: Either leave the splash guards on your car for the rest of its life, or remove it the first day you bring it home.
