Rebuild or Replace transmission help

Hello. The auto tranny went out on my 05 TSX. I have about 180K miles. I really don't want another car payment so I would like to get the tranny fixed. I think i could get another couple of years out of the car. Below are my two options and wanted opinion on choice.

Option 1 - replace transmission with used tranny with about 68k miles and 3 month warranty for total of $1,250.

Option 2 - have transmission rebuilt with oem parts with 12 month warranty for $1,350 plus tax.

Not sure if having my transmission rebuilt is the way to go for reliability. Thoughts?

I would be all over the rebuilt. Try to make sure the new parts are OEM, but the bonus of an extra 9 months of warranty alone is worth the extra $100 (I think).

I'd get a used one and slap it in. Not for $1250. There's tons of them on eBay for less than that. They're not hard to come by.

Your unit lasted 180k. Not sure if you maintained it regularly or not. So...a good used one should last the same or more.

The AT in the TSX is a good unit and has shown to be reliable. It will give good service last a long time as long it's maintained properly. That said, it's also fairly common knowledge that it's the weakest in the drivetrain (which would also cause me to wonder why there's "tons of them" on ebay). If I were going to go through the expense (and the hassle) of basically taking the front end of the car off to replace the trans., I'd replace it with a rebuilt. With that you have a known starting point, where a used item is a crap shoot (and why it's cheaper). It might last a long time, or it might shit the bed next week.

Spend the extra $235 and get the rebuilt with warranty.

The warranty on the used unit is useless. In order to use it you have to pull it back out yourself and reinstall another warranty unit or pay someone to do it. On the rebuilt labor is included in the warranty.

Bye K24a2, Hello K24W7 8DCT swap from TLX.

Or if the K24a2 will bolt up to the 8DCT, then keep the K24a2 (for the rev happiness at the loss of 180LB-FT at 3,800rpm from the K24W7). ECU required plus harnesses to be made and mounts and axles.
