Rear window tint = blurry night vision?

For those that have rear window tint on your TSX (35%) in my case, is your vision through the rear window when driving at night distorted or slightly blurry? Is this normal with rear tint?

I don't think so. I can't really say I've noticed anything different. I also have 35%.

Don't know about "distorted", but...

You'll find that after the tint has cured properly, you will still get starring of point light sources coming theough the rear window. This seems to be related to the tint interacting with the rear window defroster bars. On older vehicles, the tint was lifted slightly off the surface as it reached the bar (which was slightly proud of the surface) which caused this effect.

I didn't check if the TSX's defroster bars are proud or submerged, but expected the same effect and it has occured. It doesn't seem significant to me so:

1) How long has the tint been on? If it's less than a month, allow at least a month to pass to allow the tint to properly set. After that, it's back to the shop to evaluate the tint for flaws or misinstallation.

2) Could the shop have failed to properly clean the window before the install. Look carefully for marks and try to clean both sides of the rear light (warning, don't use anything other than the product the shop gave you to clean the tinted side of the window or you'll screw-up your claim).

3) Is the glass flawed? If so, you might have to eat it, however there is the chance the Acura dealer might be willing to work with you. The question in this case is did you have the vehicle before you tinted it and did you drive it at night? If the dealer installed the tint, you can probably get them to eat it if the rear light itself is flawed.

Nah, tint makes for better night time driving, IMO. Nasty headlight glare is cut way down. I have 21% all the way around and haven't had issues with any of the windows. All very clear.

20%, and I've never had a problem, and I would agree with everyone so far, it does help reduce lots of glare

I have 35% all around and no issues. You may want to take it back to your tint shop and have it re-done.

It is normal since the tints go over the defrosting lines the light is slighlty bent. Just give it a week or two for ur eyes to adjust and everything will look okay.

My tint shop recommended parking the car outside to speed up the drying of the 35% tint. They said it will take up to 30 days, depending on the weather. It did look a little blurry for a while; but parking in direct sunlight on +95 degree days took care of that.

I would give it 30-45 days to dry after installation and then take it back it there is still a problem. I've lived in Tacoma, WA, for +4 yrs (ex military, mech infantry); there are not a lot of consecutive sun days compared to living in NM.

:bingo:

It's normal! The defroster lines are raised and the tint has to lay over it so the light does bend. You can try taking a smooth finger nail or something similar (edge of a credit card or drivers license) and non-abrasive and lay down each defroster line a little bit better once it dries. I tell customers to wait at least 2 weeks before everything dries out of the film. To lay the defroster lines down, start at the center of the window and push the extra air outward towards the side of the window. Each defroster line should alay downa little bit better.

Good luck

I have 35% tint on the back window and I have noticed some very slight degradation of the optical clarity of the rear glass, especially at night. It was worse when the tint job was new and as it cured it got better. It is still quite as clear as it was before, but most people probably wouldn't notice. (My wife drives the TSX 90% of the time and had no idea what I'm talking about when I mentioned it). Bottom line, it seems normal to me, and isn't a problem in any way.
