Rdx Key Fob (modaway)

I dont know if this is a repost, but I have just seen the RDX key. Do you guys think that we can do the same thing we did with the Accord keys to the RDX key? I have the Accord key fob and love it to death. But I was just wondering if it will have the same programming chip. Cuzz that is a cool key. And you dont have to worry about the Honda logo on it.

Modaway will find a way and have the answers for us all.

The rdx fob has no trunk button and it's the size of an altoids tin.

I'm looking into this, but I'm guessing that it is a different system altogether.

I have the same question, although I'm looking at the parts of the system and it is drastically different than ours. My guess is, this will become the basis for all the keyless systems to come, though it sounds like a rather large piece. Honda has really become a late comer to this.

If it is a key fob, then would this be the first Acura with a Key fob?

Thanks. That is pretty cool. There is a MINOR chance this would work, but I'd have to get my hands on one of the keys first. Issue is frequency and since Alldata isn't showing an RDX yet, I can't look that up.

^ yeah thats where I have seen it at. Cant find a actual picture of it. The only thing that it doesnt have is the trunk release. But thats ok with me. I dont really use it that much. The RDX key is laser cut just like the Accord, so I figure it might work. But just the programing might not work.

what do you mean by frequency? if we take the chip out of our key fob and stick it in there would it not work?

Here's what I know about our key, so if any of you get ahold of an RDX key at the dealership, our key is made by Omron and utilized the 4th Gen of the immobilizer units. The 2006 has a post-amble of code which, like the TL, tells the car Driver 1 or 2. The immobilizer chip is made by Phillips.

What I'm looking for is the info off the back of the RDX key. If Omron isn't on there, my guess is they change suppliers and all bets are off then.

The wildest mod I've done is for an RSX. Use the Pilot key, Accord internals, and RSX immobilizer chip. Works perfectly to this day as I understand.

No. The immobilizer chip is 1/3 of the equation. The transmitter for the buttons is the critical part. You can put that immobilizer chip just about anywhere near the key and paste a copied key in and it will start the car, but you won't be able to unlock it with the transmitter buttons. The reason this mod works for our cars is because the Accord shares the same frequency. This same frequency and code past along matches with the TL, TSX, and RSX. I have not done this successfully with any other car or truck. Additionally, I mention this above, in 2006 the TSX gets addition code to tell the TSX computer (TL had this all along) that the key is for Driver 1 or 2. This extra code is not part of the code sent with the Accord key so doing the mod on a TL or 06 TSX looses the Driver 1 or 2 function.

The final 1/3 is the key. This key is laser cut, as mentioned before, so a frankenstein would have to be done and I'm not sure if the mechanism supports it.

Okay, thing are looking interesting now. I just looked up the part in my parts catalog, 35111-STK-305, and though no online site has it in their pricing catalog, I am able to see the bits and pieces. The key has a similar transmitter as I'm used to seeing in the Accord key; NOT SWAPABLE, but similar. Only issues I see at this second are:

1. Transmitter frequency matching our cars
2. Key is able to removed cleanly. It looks like 1 metalic molded piece at the moment
3. Cost (could be in the $100s just for the key)

Yeah me too. Hopefully its made by Omron and will be easy to duplicate a copy key to fit the fob.

I may have to talk to my friend at Acura to see if he can let me spend a few minutes with an RDX key at his workbench.

RDX key looks more like Audi A4 key, you have to push button to use the key. A4 key is made by Witte Velbert.

A4 key
It is very close, but more slim and the key is folded along the smaller cross-section, but yes, they are similar.

Ha, my 2001 Volkswagen Jetta had the same flip/switchblade key. It was hard to switch back to the ole fob & key seperate. The VW keys fits so nicely into a jean pocket.

I dont really care about trunk release button, you can always open the trunk without the trunk release button, just use the manual way..

Having not personally seen it, but judging from the button size, it isn't any wider than the Accord fob, but definitely is longer by about an inch plus the key. As soon as one comes up for purchase, your's truly will be buying one and testing it out.

^^Additionally, I don't see a Driver 1/2 option on this. Can anyone who has test driven the RDX confirm there isn't a D1/2 for the Navi.

Another strange fact, the TL and TSX, current Gens, have disappeared from my parts catalog. One wonders if they are on to me.

Only way you can get a key at the moment is if you own an RDX.

I'm checking daily for prices.
