Question Question on the TSX Touch Screen

Hello, first time poster so please let me know if this is not the correct for this type of post.

I own a 2004 TSX (very happy with it, a real pleasure to drive) and want to add a car pc into it. I have seen many of the nice installs you folks have done and hope mine will be as nice. The one piece that always seems to be missing in the systems I am seeing is the usage of the stock lcd touch screen as input to the car pc. I have searched high and low on the internet and cannot find any real information of how the screen communicates to the navi unit in the trunk (at least I think it is to the navi unit). I put a scope on the DISP BUS + line (pin A10, red/white) at the navi unit but I see constant traffic. I expect to see only traffic when I press on the screen, possibly a RS485 type of link.

Can someone provide some information on this. I'm an electrical engineer and have access to a lot of nice tools where I work, so please, point me in the right direction and I will see where I can get.

Many thanks in advance,
A

wow this is definitely the "deepest" first post I've seen lol . Welcome to the forum.

Anyway, not sure if this helps but in the Service Manual (22-336)
it says
The display unit transmits the signal from each operation key and the touch switches to the navigation unit over GA-Net bus
I can't yet find any other reference to "GA-Net"

Great, thanks for the fast response. I do not have the service manual, is there a picture of the equipment that is in the dash (the lcd, the radio and cd player)? I'll be grateful if you can post it if there is.
The GA-Net is probably some Alpine specific bus protocol, probably like a RS485, I doubt they are using CAN for this. I will probe the bus once I am back in the office.

thanks again for the help,
A

I have a service manual and would be more than happy to help provide scans later tonight when I get into the lab. I've been pondering the same thing but unfortunately I'm not in EE =)

I heard that it may actually be CAN. It it is CAN, than it is more difficult, at least more costly, than I thought. The one guy I talked to said if it is CAN tan it is impossible, what's with this attuide? I'm as excited about performace as the rest, the word impossible nvers come to my mind. lerts get some idea flowng, CAn is not as hard as people make it out tobe, after all... it's every-day people that design that stUFF!
