Question from a TL owner.

I like the TSX the more and more I see it, but the only thing holding me back from making it my next car is that its only 200hp as opposed to the 225 from my 2000 TL. I understand that it isn't all about hp, but could someone who has driven both the tsx and 99-03 tl tell me if the power difference is all that noticable? I plead ignorance to this subject. By the way I check this forum out every once in awhile and love what you guys are doing with your cars. Keep up the good work.

i think the easiest thing would be to take a drive to the dealership and go for a test drive.

You are going to notice the difference, but the 200 hp car is not underpowered by any means. It is not a race car and the engine will sound louder at high speeds compared to a 6, but the enjoyment I get passing cars in corners is great. I use it all the time in our windy mountain roads. The TSX will pull out from most cars in tight corners even given the lower hp. You will have less understeer with the TSX especially if you get aspec suspension and a rear sway. The fun to drive factor beats out raw power any day IMO.

I think Nightshredder summed it all up for me too...

One of my friends has a 2003 TL Type S, and you can feel the difference in power between her car and mine... off the line, her car pulls harder. If we were to go head to head, she wouldn't embarass me, although her car is an auto, and mine is a 6MT. Compared to my TSX, maneuvering her car around the bends feels like I'm steering a much larger car. IMO, the handling in the TSX feels more precise and nimble.

Ironically, I liked the TL for some of the additional creature comforts it had over the TSX such as the Acuralink handsfree system, and memory seating.

Go take one out for a test drive... and then let us know which color TSX you got!

Both of which will be available in the 2006 TSX.

BTW, with the new TSX getting a power bump (up to roughly 215 HP using the old standard) there might not be as much of a difference as one might think. The biggest difference will be in the way the TSX engine will need to rev higher than you're used to with the V6 in the TL.

if this helpe. my previous car was a 2001 CL type S. 260 HP. though S has more power noticeably, TSX is more nimble off the line and city driving. highway driving lacks that high end power but is as stable as the type S and you wont regret getting it. Power will not be an Issue to you. 200 vs 225. just remember all the extra weight u have to haul in ur TL

The TSX is a great car! I think if the TSX was RWD it would sell 2X as much as it does. However, its still a huge sucess! But its too be expected.

My family has had a lot of Acuras. Before getting the RL, my mom had a 2002 TL-P. I drove it quite extensively and often back to back with my TSX. I can honestly say that the difference in power is hardly noticeable. However, what is highly noticeabe is the difference in handling. The TSX handling almost always made the TL-P feel like a boat.

So getting the TSX, you lose little in terms of power, but gain a lot terms of handling. It's a fair trade-off, in my opinion.

I doubt that by being RWD, you would see a lot more TSXs move off the lots. As much as us enthusiasts whine about it, the majority of buyers don't know the difference between FWD and RWD so while you might see a handful more units moved as a result of the TSX being RWD, I think 2X might be a tad optimistic.

ahhh...Well 3 of my friends love the TSX but went with the S2000 because of that fact. So I'm assuming theres a general interest in the tsx but the fwd is a turn off.
Most people on this forum dont care that much because they made the purchase. However, I bet Honda lost customers to the G35C for sure.

I had the same apprehension when shopping for a replacement for my leased 2003 Accord V6 with 240hp. I went into the dealership with the intention of test driving a TL, which I did. Other than some additional luxury features, I was not particularly impressed with the TL compared to my Accord. Then at the strong suggestion of the dealer, I also drove the TSX. Blew me away. Yes, I would have liked to hold on to that extra power, which is nice when passing on the highway. But I totally fell in love with the nimble handling of the TSX. You can steer that car with just thought. Just waiting for the '06 to get here...

I wouldn't even be considering the car if it was RWD. If I want a true sports car it would be (and mine is) RWD -- and it'll have 2 doors not four. Note my S2000 pictured in my avatar.

Using your flawed logic:
Since the TSX cannot haul or off-road as well as my Toyota Tacoma Doublecab, Acura needs to make the TSX sit higher, put a bed on it, and make it 4WD. Then they'll sell 2X as much!
LOL Dude the S2000 and TSX are in totally different classes.

exactly. losing a tsx sale to a s2000 sale makes no sense. either you want a 4 door sedan, or you want a 2 door sports coupe.

haha...obviously. However, people who shop Honda and want RWD only have 1 choice. Well 2, NSX.

Also, my friends dont really use classes. Any car can be compared to anything to them.

If I give them a "what would you rather have" question and make "Enzo" one of the choices. Enzo loses all the time. Power windows, none...trunk space, etc.

its funny.

Correct. But when the TSX does lose sales because of its FWD its usually not to the S2000. However, it has happened! haha!

When the TSX loses sales it should be to the new Subaru Legacy, Audi A4 quattro, E90 325, G35. I dont know any american car that is in that class?? Maybe the Cadillac??? Maybe the new A3 but thats a hatch.

I contemplated the IS300 for about 30 seconds until I thought of the snow that we get. If I owned two cars...
