Question for long time owners

I have owned my accord for 5.5 years now. I have noticed that the engine noise has gotten louder over the years.
Now for those of you out there that have had your TSX for a while now, do you see engine noise getting louder? How quiet is the engine anyway. My 4-banger accord can get pretty loud.
Long time owners, check in!

Prior to owning my TSX I had a 2001 Honda Accord EX sedan, which I traded in for my TSX last May. My Accord's engine noise didn't get louder at all, even after the 27k miles I put on it. My TSX runs smooth except for a knocking noise coming from the steering wheel.

When I was test driving once, the demo car had about 17000km on it (manager got to drive it as his own) and I remember it being quite quiet... but of course I wasn't too familiar with it then so I can't really say for certain.
There are no "long time owners" of this car... maybe the euro-accords? Was there an '03 model?

I'm sure its not holes in my exhaust system.
Its the growl of the engine in first gear when I gun it. I know it wouldn't be silent but the noise has gotten louder through the years. I was just wondering because alot of people here have said that the TSX sounds and feels like a v6. I know v6's to be very quiet.
I was just wondering maintained this v6 like quietness. In my past experience, 4 bangers are loud.

I think this happens to all cars. I remember when my parents first got their 1997 voyager (minivan), I couldn't tell whether the engine was on or not. Now it sounds like it's struggling to stay alive idling (relatively; I don't think anything's really wrong with it).
Can anyone really explain this? Are all the joints just loosening up? I would have thought that during the initial break-in period, friction in the engine and bearings would be the highest...?

I've had mine 9 months. 9 Months is probably the longest anyone has had a TSX. I've got over 20k miles now and the engine sounds like it did when I bought it.

The kind of engine noise you describe might very well be "valve chatter". Take it in for a valve adjustment. It's usually a cheap procedure (less than $100). Make sure they replace the valve cover gasket while the engine is open. Good luck.
p.s. my TSX is quiet though I doubt any of us could be considered long time owners as the car has been released for less than 10 months.

I owned a '90 Accord EX coupe, a '94 Accord EX sedan, and a '01 Accord EX sedan- (all 4's). I put appx 100k, 115k, & 35k on the cars, respectively. Never noticed any louder noises as they aged.
They actually ran smoother and faster as they aged!
Owned TSX for 4 weeks, can't answer questions on that yet, but things are great so far.

99 Accord 4 cyl w/ 29K and it seems just as quiet as the day I drove it off the dealer lot. As buzy mentioned it may be that you're hearing more valve chatter, which might be due to mis adjustment or even the cold weather (if you left that 20W-50 oil from the summer in the car)

9.5 mos old, 18K + miles, quiet as a mouse, no squeaks, rattles or other annoyances. very, very, very happy with car.
btw, still have stock pads and rotors, haven't warped them yet like some people complain about on this site. i think most of the complaints on this site are driver induced.
well, i guess its possible that a few unlucky souls bought some duds, when you make 20K + cars, there's bound to be a few bruised apples in the bunch.

8 months with the car, 2 months without it. total of 10 months. 16k miles.
at the time of my wreck, it was perfect and still purring like it should.
my si civic had a lil' over 40k miles on it, and it was perfect as well.
i would take your car to a dealer and have it look'ed at. good luck.

I think you guys are getting me wrong or I just said it wrong. Nothing is wrong with my car. I was just in to the dealer for some maintenance and was told the car is in great condition.
I was referring to the growl of the engine at higher RPMs. Does the TSX have that loud growl when hitting the upper RPMs like my 4 banger 98' accord? Or even like my 98' Integra?
I want the TL but I would rather the TSX since its cheaper. Don't want the engine noise of a 4-banger and since some of you said it sounds kinda like a v6 just wanted more feedback on that.

Your origional question was if the sound got louder as you put on miles. I havent noticed this yet and dont expect the TSX to be any worse than normal.
I'm not sure who said the TSX sounds like a V6, because it doesnt. It sounds like a 4 banger and will probably sounds very close to what your accord sounds like.
