Question Question about wood trim ...

Was just at the dealer trying to get my TSX asap. At first i wanted the Milano Red with the Parchment interior, the dealer told me that the parchment come only with the wood trim and i had no choice on the matter. I really don't like the way the wood trim looks. Was the dealer telling me the truth? can i get the Milano Red with the Parment interior (only interior you can get with the red) with the titanium trim instead of the wood? Please help.

No you can't. He is right, you'll have to live with the wood trim.

So after reading this site, I walked away thinking the wood was fake. I mentioned this to the dealer today as I was looking at a red 2004 with wood and he stated that the wood is real.

So what is it - real or fake?

Ive got the wood, and it sounds fake when you knock on it. Not 100% sure though, so I would like to know also!

Thanks

The plastic wood was a deal breaker for me. Looks really insulting compared with the real wood you see in a Lexus.

The dealers have some sort of add-on wood trim kit, saw it on an ebony interior, the wood was even on the steering wheel, looked atrocious. Told them I would buy the car if they took off all the crap, and returned it to the silver plastic.

If it bothers you today, it will just get worse, especially when it is all scratched up.

no US cars are allowed to use pure real wood anymore - something about splintering in crashes and causing harm

The RL is real wood, always has been. But it is the only Acura or Honda with genuine wood. Although, the 06 wood grain looks MUCH better than the 04-05 wood. you know, you can get Milano red with Ebony...

That's what I was going to say. That would alleviate your plood problem. I'm not into the plood either....I don't mind it when it's darker plood, but not this one.

I actually like the look - definitely a personal taste thing as the fake brushed aluminum trim was less pleasing to me than the fake wood. Honestly, our choice came down to the look of the trim as my wife would've otherwise preferred the ebony interior.

I'm trying to picture the ebony interior with the 'wood' trim kit..."yuck" is the only thing that comes to mind - a mix of the 'metal' and 'wood' just doesn't seem like it'd look good. The things dealers do sometimes.

what do you mean a "mix" ??? Is this just your own imagination ?
It's either Silver or Plood trim
I'd love to swap silver trim of my ebony interior for the plood - completely

I think you can buy the trim you like from the part department. I think they glue the things there.

This goes back to the case where the guy was decapitated in a crash. When they found his head in a nearby ditch, they realized he had some splinters in his eyes. If this didn't happen, he might have seen the sheet of metal that was quickly approching him that would end up cutting his head clean off.

Well, a TL with parchment or camel has both wood trim and metal. It looks pretty good, I think.

Not true. Plenty of cars use real wood, but it's usually only the expensive ones.

Fuckleberry, I was commenting on a post higher up in the thread:

Mixing the wood kit against the stock 'aluminum' pieces - notably the piece that runs horizontally on the dash - just doesn't seem like it'd look good. Just my take.

I purchased the trim kit and steering wheel, and the dealer will be installing both next week (hopefully).

Yeah. All of the wood dash kits that I could find replace every part BUT the aluminum-looking pieces. And those are the only ones I'm interested in replacing (the strips across the dash and front passenger doors).

I'm thinking about removing those parts and sending them off to be coated at http://www.exoticwooddash.com/coating.asp - They charge $.95 per square inch; takes about 3 weeks. The Acura dealer would charge $147 to remove and later reinstall all the parts for me.

my dad has a 2004 lexus es300, and though although you can 100% tell it's real when you touch it, i really don't "See" the difference between his and mine, and neither does he.

but the TSX wood is definitely fake (plastic).

my dad said he knows a guy who will replace the fake wood with real wood, for something like $500. not worth it to me,

oem kits use 3m tape. but they generally don't stick very well until you hold each piece for about 20 minutes.
