Turning off the VSA will improve handling if you know what you are doing. Usually VSA interprets the driver's intended direction (poor road conditions, emergency turns) but it tends to get in the way during intentionally spirited driving, hence the reason for the off switch.

So yes, if you want to race around, turn it off.

Keep it on isn't bad, it'll just slow you down a bit since it will independently brake the wheels that are necessary.

When VSA is active, it will also reduce throttle if you try to accelerate too briskly while cornering.

Exactly. I always have to turn off my TCS on my Mazda6 when racing with others.

If you're stuck in a snow bank, will the VSA keep the car from spinning one wheel only (a bit like a viscous coupling)?
