Question

Quick question....My TSX '07 has just over 57,000 miles and has been fully serviced at my local Acura dealer since I bought it new. I have yet to have the transmission come up for servicing. I keep reading 30k is when it should be changed/flushed. Is this something that will show in my maintenance minder or is it something I should initiate at my next visit?

I think you have some time to go-I am not 100% sure but I think it is about 60,000 miles that the code will show up. I had the manual transmission fluid changed not long after my 06 tsx was 3 years old. I also had the brake fluid changed them. My car had over 90,000 miles at that time and the MTF code never did show up. I also have all the service done by a acura dealer. Have no desire or knowledge to do it myself.

It should show up in your maintenance minder but the owner's manual says that if you drive in severe conditions, change the transmission fluid at 60k.

There is an MM code for it, but it won't show up till you get over 100K miles (it did show up on my wife's 07 at just past 100K). I assume it's based on the 04-05 model year interval which is 120K miles (or 10 years I think), then every 60K after that. But..... it can't hurt to change it early (no flushing.... Honda specifically advises against that). The severe service schedule interval is 60K miles (for my 05 anyway), but I'd bet money the MM can't tell the the difference.

My 06 TSX trans code came up at 60,000 mile mark. I also changed the ATF fluid at 30,000 for the fun of it at Acura a few years back. 60,000 miles and +100,000 miles seems way too long to me for changing out ATF. I'm still not use to +100,000 miles for the spark plugs.

Make sure you use Honda ATF only and don't do one of those complete flush jobs on the 5AT.

On the 3G TL side, there are many threads that discuss both MTF and ATF fluid change intervals.

If your car is an auto, 30k between fluid changes is too long. 60k? Forget it. Acura fluids break down much too fast to let them sit in there that long. I'd do 1 drain/fill every 10k. Seriously. If you're over 30k, I'd do 3 drain/fills, and a drain/fill every 10k after that.

Just my .

It's an Auto and I drive a mix of highway and city. Next service will be at 60k so I will see what comes up. Now, everytime I go to the dealer they charge me to "check" everything over. If the trans fluid had broken down would they be able to tell? I check the fluid levels myself but other than that I am hands off.

The stealer won't be able to tell if the fluid has gone bad. Even if your ATF level is good, doesn't mean that the fluid is serviceable. I'd change it out much sooner than is recommended by Acura.
