Put regular in the tank on accident. What have I done?

I accidentally put 10 gallons of regular unleaded into my tank this evening. I only had about 1 gallon left when I stopped to fill up.

So besides degraded performance for the next 10 gallons, have I done any other damage? Permanent damage?

(2007 with navigation, BTW)

Nothing. Just fill up with 91/93 when you get down to 1/2 a tank or so. I had that happen to me once. I asked the attendant for 93 and he put in 87.

Permanent damage? Better take the car in for a trade or see if they'll take it back on the 30day return policy!

Seriously tho, u'r fine. You don't want to make it a habit but a tank of regular won't kill it.

No big deal. That's what dealers put in anyway on new car delivery.

if you're really freaked out pour in an octane boost and/or some fuel system cleaner. However; the knock sensors will compensate for the poor fuel. You will have slightly poorer performance, but will really only notice it when putting on alot of load.

You car is going to hate you now. You have mistreated it. You need to sell it immediately and buy a new one or else you are doomed for life. Putting the wrong octane in a car is the worst thing you can do ever.

Actually you are fine just fill it up with 93 next time.

Nothing to stop you putting in a bottle (or what it recommends for the amount of fuel you have in the tank) of Octane booster.
As everyone has said above - no big deal.

Nothing. The computer will just fire the spark plugs earlier. That's about it.

I think its the opposite. Wouldn't the mixture explode to fast becuase of the lower octane. So therefore, you would delay the firing; I don't know?

..either way to the original poster, who cares - top it up with premium, it won't matter for one tank.

The computer "retard" the timing... so, it fires early... right?

Retard means later in relationship to piston top-dead-center.

I would recommend against using octane booster due to bad experiences with it and damaging the cat.

Which brand was this?
And over what period of time did you use OB additive?

Never ever wash your cat in octane booster.

Haha, I wish I had the picture of an ex's cat handy. It was standing on the toilet, soaking wet, and looking rather furious... 7-toed paws and all.
