problems with dension icelink
#42
Just to update, I ended up sending the unit back to Dension, I was charged shipping again, and then a 15% restocking fee. I guess this 'experiment' cost me $25 in shipping (x 3) plus $30 restocking! I paid $105 to end up back where I started! My Blitzsafe V2 is on the way now, hopefully it will be more reliable.

I had serious problems with 2 icelinks on my 04 w/nav before returning both.
The first one wouldn't pause the iPod when switching to another source (its supposed to) and it would skip forward twice from the steering wheel instead of once sometimes. It would also sometimes make it so I couldn't get to the Audio screen on the nav.
The second one worked better for the first day, but then it wouldn't switch to CD-C at all, and caused serious issues freezing up the whole nav system. It also had problems with skipping songs more times than pressed. Both units were pretty slow.
I've just installed a USA-SPEC PA11-HON2. So far it is amazing, does everything I cared about that the Icelink did, but is much faster and has been 100% reliable so far. Plus it has an additional AUX output and is like $80 less! The only negative so far is it is very hard to fit in the space behind the center pocket thing.

I bought one of these without knowing about the problems.
Installed it last night. Noticed the unit heated very quickly. Worked OK so I re-assembled the dash. Drove the car out and switched to radio. I couldn't select the CDC - Dension device no matter what afterwards.
Got home and checked wires and it worked again. In the morning driving as normal - noticed that the CDC on the display was not displaying disc no. anymore despite operating. Wouldn't respond to HU controls. Changed to radio and then found again that the Dension could not be selected regardless of iPod resets etc.
The iPod still charges in the cradle, but can't be selected.
I think this unit has an inherent flaw with overheating. Dension will be history if they don't address this. I'm not happy that I've paid $149 for a heatshrinked piece of overheating crap.
I'm already sick of the dashboard dissassembly I've had to do.
If you're thinking about this product then don't. Run far away. Located overseas I'm unlikely to get any real product service at all and I'm looking for another solution because this product is flaky.
RUN from Dension - get ANYTHING else.
