Performance...........?

1. If the light changes when I'm checking the map, I like to be able to catch up to the traffic.
2. I like to be able to change lanes without losing speed -- you know, a little throttle pressure increases speed, so that when I arrive in the next lane I haven't lost a car length and some guy behind has to brake. I don't want it mailed in.
3. I need some acceleration at speeds above 120 kph -- for
safer passing.
4. I like to feel it makes a difference when I shift down.

If you have these complaints and you claim that a base rsx provides the rush you need you lose credibility. (If it's an S that's a different story) A tsx will outperform a base rsx mt to mt and at to at.
I drive an auto, admittedly not a fast car but on the freeway on the drive in this morning I was able to accelrate uphill to change lanes in 5th gear at 80mph with no problems and my car is all stock(except for the synthetic oil)
Maybe you are only talking about specific situations in the rev range; ie if you floor it at 80 in an auto you'll kick into third gear above 5k where the tsx torque curve starts to drop off. In my experience it still provides you plenty of power to pass when needed; but maybe i'm just easier to please.

I don't drive terribly fast, but I have no trouble pulling away from traffic, or merging when desired. I think I'd like improved handling more than raw speed. I plan to do suspension mods before engine mods.
If you really need more instant response, keep it in a gear lower than you usually do. Maybe you'll want to downshift again, but you'll have a lot more power on tap with a couple of thousand more RPMs. If you want to conserve fuel, keep the revs low. When you want to have fun, keep them higher. I know it's harder to manage it rather than something you could just punch-and-go, but when you want to be more sedate and save some fuel, you can. If you reflash your ECU to get more low-end power, I would think you'd not get as good of gas milage, but I dunno.
I'm getting 27-28, mixed, BTW. Gotta love that.
But when you want to go as fast as possible, you'll have to rev it to get the power out. But it works. Unless something's kinda wrong with it!
I guess it's always fun to get a little more power if possible, tho.
After reading through these posts I feel like I have to chime in also.
When I decided to get the TSX, I was actually looking forward for a Honda reliability. Performance was not the priority of this baby that I guarantee. And I don't even think it's even a luxry car. I mean c'mon. FAKE leather! But hey, it's a 27k car so i'm not expecting to have a choice of nappa leather or whatever other manufacturer offers, even my 'leather' steering looks like a rubber now.
BUT one thing I know for sure in the beginning is that this car has a GREAT chassis, and with some mods like sway bar and suspension set it'll even exploit the car's capability.
So, if you're looking for straight line performance this isn't your car; however, if carving through curves, doing a heel-tow downshift is your thing then i'd say that I would recommend this car to you. I mean howmany FWD can you get a mid turn lift off oversteer?(After Comptech RSB,of course!)
All in all, TSX is a nice little car with some handling performance, and being able to haul people/stuff around. Its trunk is even bigger than X5 believe me! Highway performance isn't bad, I can still pass people in 6th gear without having to downshift. I mean for what it is (4 banger & entry level luxry) it's a GREAT car.
