Paint chips-help!

My baby Honda got pelted by several small rocks on the front of the hood. (Damn truckers with no tarp! ) Anyways, I proceeded down to my local Honda dealer for some touch-up paint. Problem is, when Hubby tried to patch up the chips, the paint went on kinda gooey and we only managed to make a mess. There must be some secret to great touch-up painting and if anyone know how-it's you guys. So help me out! Please!

There is a paint touch up product that allows user to remove the glob of paint that dries after dabbing (not brushing) on the touch up. Most dealers and auto parts stores have this. I have it and it works better than just touch up alone.
