Overpriced 2004 TSX?

Hi,

I've been a TSX fanatic for a while and have finally saved enough money to join the group. I am contemplating purchasing a used TSX for a reasonable price. The only dealership with a certifed used TSX has a 2004 non-navi w/ 17,000 miles for $23,995. That is very expensive when considering some people are paying $28-$29,000 for a new TSX w/ navi. What do you think is a reasonable offer on my part? $18,500? Thanks in advance for your help.

I highly doubt your dealer is going to discount that much for a used car. The way the dealers see it, is that it cost them more money to certify the car as a certified used car and you are getting the free warranty with the car up to a mileage past the usual factory warranty. You may be able to get 2-3k off. But i doubt they'll do down to 18500. 17k miles is still fairly new and acura hold their value fairly well.

I don't think your going to get it for anything close to $18,500 as Acuras really hold their value. $21-$22k is probably more realistic.

Thanks for all your responses. I'll try and get the car for under $20,000 before taxes & fees. If not, I guess I might as well dish out the extra money for a new one. I got quoted $28,500 for a 2006 navi TSX a month ago. This seems like a decent price...hopefully he won't screw me with the inflated "fees."

The Dealer bought my 04 for about $22K in December, and after they certified it, they were asking $29K. Now they are selling it for the KBB Value $27,880

Same price I paid for mine w/o TTL in May '05. I have an '04 also, and mine also had 16k on it. The dealer came down from $24999 (price I saw on their site) and $25999 I saw somewhere else for the exact same car (same VIN). They will probably laugh if you offer $18K. I agree though, they are expensive even when used. Good luck.

Don't ever pay any of those fees (except of course state-mandated registration/tax), it's a load of dealer BS that you can always get out of.

That sounds like a good deal on your end but how can the dealer expect a consumer to pay $28,000 when they can get a new one for less than $1,000 more. I was hoping to use this argument to gain some leverage when negotiating.

I'm looking at one right now... a 2004 black on black w/ navi and 18k miles and the dealer wants $25,980... I am thinking that around $23k is where I want to be.

I got my 04' back in Mid December, a week before Christmas and i paid 23,500 including t&t and it had 26,300 miles on it. Its a NBP/Black 6MT Non-Navi, OEM body kit, tinted windows, spoiler. They originally had it marked at over 25k.

It never ceases to amaze me what car dealers think of to rape their customers. What on earth could they be doing to a trade-in to justify this premium. The extended warranty? Ha! This covers stuff that is not considered "wear and tear" items; how many parts on your TSX fail to fall into this category?

Sounds like you'd be paying for a false sense of security.

I'm sure they will never sell the car for $28K, but when I sold it to them it was the only manual TSX on the lot and they seemed to think it would sell. Plus they are charging for the certification program, which is totally ridiculous considering the car is so new, and of course, well maintained

Just got a quote from a dealer:

"THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. AS PER YOUR REQUEST THE 2006 ACURA TSX WITH NAVIGATION WOULD BE $27,300 PLUS YOUR FEES."

Aside from the title, tax & license fees what other fees would I be subjected to?

Yea, that is what I'm afraid of. I e-mailed him back for an estimated break down of the "fees," but $27,300 is right above invoice...I hope this goes through

you might as well dish out the extra $4,000 to get the new 2006 model or you can wait until the dealer comes back down to earth and gives you a better price. best of luck!

No crap. I couldn't believe they wouldn't budge. Another dealer not even 10 miles away had a TSX with more milage for 2500 less than that. Pretty stupid if you ask me...

My search continues...

The car was in great condition. I was in the engine, under it, in the back, under the seats... Nothing aftermarket.

I just sat there confused because I was sure I had this car in the 23k range. Pretty upsetting too.

They were giving me 24,500 with tax, title and license.

They were also giving me 22,000 on my trade in, which is less than what I wanted too.

according to edmunds, the invoice for a tsx w/ navi is $27,257. the dealer is probably getting some type of rebate or other incentive which makes the cost of the car lower.

Invoice before destination is for a 06 tsx w/navi is:$27,872

The dealer confirmed this by showing me the invoice too when I signed for the car..
