Our engine is it...

well my brother as a civic si, and I have the tsx... i read on the si forum that his engine is the same as a base RSX engine, but the Type S engine is differnt... some like A2? or A3 I forgot... but the thing is the guys over there say that the SI does not have 'Real' VTEC, but the RSX Type S does...

so my question is... does our cars have VTEC? I knw it is I-VTEC and its VTEC+VTC... but like is ours a A3 or an A2?

i believe this applies to the toyota celica gt and gts. yes the engines are very different. i don't know the exact terminology.

i believe the base rsx and civic si have one valve on the intake side and the rsx-s and our cars have them on both intake and exhaust. correct me if i'm wrong.

Whoever told you the k24a2(tsx) was similar to the k20a3(rsx base and civic si) was incorrect.

The k24a2 is most similar to atroked out k20a2(rsx-s) motor however there are some significant differences including the intake manifold, cams and headers.

The k20a3 does have "real" vtec, however it kicks in at like 2000 rpms so in essence the high lift game is really like the normal cam in the rsx-s and tsx. The tsx has vtc(i-vtec) as well as old vtec with out stock switchover point at 6000 rpms.
