Opinions on Mud Guards?!?
I was just curious as to who has mud guards, who doesn't, and if you even like the way they look.
I am asking because i was thinking of getting them (if they would work) because the roads on my area are just dirty and my new tires kick up so much stuff all over my car and i was thinking about getting them.
If you guys have them, could you post up a picture too. I have 06 ASM with 18 Ron Jon Servos and wanted to see what they look like and get some opinions.

I have an ASM car also jwood and where I live mud guards are a must. The end of this month will be one year i've had my car and there aren't any chips around the mud guard area. i think they've done the job very well if not perfect. however, i'm not sure how the paint looks under the mud guard. It may or may not be scratched. I am going to take them off soon to check on that. Maybe i can snap some pics too.

Guarding my PWP
I have the PWP paint and added the mud guards myself to keep off MUD and tar, etc. which showed badly on a white car. They have worked great and I like the contrast between the PWP and the black mud guards and black trim around windows etc. Gives the car a very classy look.

I just took off my front mudguards after 15 months and the paint on the lower sills was chipped. I should have removed them when the car was new. IMO they look fine on stock ride height but look odd when lowered with nice wheels. I don't have the rear mudguards.

Does anyone have a picture of a lowered car with 18's (or 19's) and the mud guards? Please post a picture if you do. I did find the thread of the guy that painted his, that looked nice but i don't want to spend the money on that....

I was just searching throught some pictures and i think they look good on blue and black, but if i were to get them, i think i would have to paint them to match the car. I found them on an ASM and i'm just not sure....
Still would like some more opinions though!

Don't have them and if you do get them, take the extra step to put automotive double sided tape along the seam where it meets the paint to protect it. You can get the 3M double sided tape from most major car parts stores.
I don't have them and have had no reason to put them on my car.

PWP with mudguards and A-spec suspension
I have them and like them (not only for the way the car looks but also for keeping stuff from getting kicked up onto the door and rear panels).

They came on my car brand new. I like the look but wonder how much of that is b/c I am so used to them. I had mine painted and it makes all the difference in the world. It goes from looking like a plastic add-on piece to a part of the car. BTW, I have a CGP w/ no drop and OEM wheels.

Jan, I like the mud guard look when the car is closer to stock

My car came with mud guards but the dealership took them off to add the A-spec kit. The dealership forgot to put them in the trunk like I requested and lost my flaps. The sales man was pretty cool and gave me door edge guards and a free 1st service instead. I haven’t had any problems with rock/chips with the A-spec kit without flaps yet.

Mud guards are a must if:
1. You don't have an A-Spec kit.
2. Your car color is a lighter color.
For those complaining about paint wear on the body because of the mud guards, put those clear 3M tapes on, and no more problems. Front ones are a must since some parts are metal, but the rear is OK, since it is plastic.

For any of you guys who have had them painted, how much did it cost you? I guess i would just have to have a body shop do it, or would Maaco be able to paint them? I know Maaco is horrible, but they are only mud guards and i can get them repainted if need be but just looking for price range!
EDIT: ^^ A lip kit is the under body spoiler kit that goes on the front, rear, and sides of the car (aka, ground effects as some refer to them as)

Ok, I took my mud guards off today to basically assess the damage and clean underneath them. The rears are a PITA to get off if your car is lowered. there's a screw back in there hard to get to.(see photo) I bought my car 1 year ago last week so this is what a years worth of riding did. I have about 13,000 miles on it. Only the front passenger side is noticeable from about 10 feet away. They all vary as far as damage but you'll be able to see that from the photos. I cleaned the dirt off, clayed and have some wax sitting on it right now.
Does anyone have a specific type tape recommendation to put in place? I want to end the damage here if I can.

I've had my mudguards on for about 9 months. Last weekend when I did the big detail, I took them off, as I had a feeling they were going to be damaging the paint underneath. I was right. See below.
Now that pics is after 8 hours of detailing, that area was clayed and polished with a Orbital and Rotary... didn't get rid of it.
Anybody have suggestions to fix? Does it look like something I should use touch up paint on? How does touch up paint work? I know the vehicles are painted in a pretty sophisticated process... is this something i can bring to the dealer and then can paint over? What should I do?

3M clearbra tape. I got some leftovers from doing it, so I put them on as soon as I brought home the car from the dealer.
I knew this was going to happen with the mudguards, since I put mudguards on the other car, and same exact thing happened, and I slapped myself for it. As soon as I saw the tsx had mudguards, putting tape in it was my first priority.
They should provide clear tape with the mudguard kit.

I took mine off with about 12000 miles on it, and 9 months, and just have a few very minor marks down at the very bottom. If you're not looking specifically for it, you'd never notice it.
I debated about keeping them off or putting them back on then, and in the end decided it looked better off.

I had them for about two years, then they came off when I put the OEM body kit on. I thought I'd miss them more than I do, but I like the look of the car much more now without them. Much cleaner looking. Haven't had any issues with things slinging up on the sides, and I live in the sloppy state of Washington.
One of the corners was marred by one of the guards, so tape is definitely a good idea.
