Nice break down in that pic there!

I do notice that the FRAM/Honda filter is a tall/skinny one while the other filter is a shorter/fatter filter. My dealer had just told me something about honda/acura moving to the tall/skinny filters because of oil pressure or something like that... Looks like we are getting the shaft, and a cardbord shaft at that.

The "good" filter by Honda Filtech is the JDM one... which is hard to get around here. Honda has 3 manufactures for filters... the JDM/Filtech version, the Manufactured in USA (which has a lot of shared parts from the Filtech version), and the Made in Canada version which I believe is the FRAM version (slight upgrade from a regular fram filter).

The one made by Filtech can be purchased in a lot of places. The one by Fram has a different part number.

Filtech - 15400-PLM-A01
Fram - 15400-PLM-A02

H and A, Hondacuraworld, etc all have these in stock (the Filtech one that is)

You know, if you cross-reference that Fram PH7317 with other brands, I know the Purolator Pure-One filter models PL14610 (or PL14620) also work well. I'm not sure, but I think the Pure-One filter construction is better than the Fram.

That size happens to also fit on my '97 Nissan Pathfinder, which has been faithfully chugging along for over 120,000 miles with regular oil changes every 3000-4000 miles, and it still runs like a champ! This is a nice coincidence, because now I only need to "stock" one filter model for 2 vehicles!

A while back of group of mechanical engineers / Mopar nuts took a bunch of filter tore then apart and ran flow bench testing to determine which filter worked the best and flowed the easiest.

Bottom line FRAM is THE worst filter money can buy.

Purolator and Mobil 1 filter were THE best.

Just behind those two was the old Autozone house brand Duetche? Spelling? But AZ is not stocking F'ing Fram!!!!

Ford Motorcraft filters are also made by fram.

I run OE Honda old style USA filters for now. At 10bucks each it was hard to justify the Mobil 1 filter. I change full sythetic oil every 3-4k so I don't think I need the best filter on earth. If I ran conventional or Honda Oil I might run the Mobil filter again.
