Oil change question, please help!
Hello all,
I was just curious how long most of the TSX owners are going in between oil changes? I haven't had one in about 6k, and I let my car idle quite a bit. However, my MID still says that I'm at 30%. I know that the dealership says just follow the MID, but is this going to cause any long term issues? I was planning on holding off till 15% to do the oil change, but I didn't know if it would be smart to do it a little sooner. Any advice would be great!
Thanks,
Jeff

The computer is generally pretty accurate. My oil changes are usually after a little over 6K, but it all depends on your driving habits. Changing at 15% wouldn't be a bad a idea, but another thing you can do if you don't live that close to the dealership (like me), I call and find out when approximately the next maintenece will be due (those are also determined by the computer, not a set number of miles) and I'll either try to stretch the oil life as long as I can without going 5%, or I'll do the service a little early and get the oil changed as well.

Modern engine oil is a very highly engineered product. It's several hundred chemical transformations and additions away from the goop they suck out of the ground. There are people here that are routinely doing more than 20k between changes and not suffering any ill effects from it and they've had the chemical analysis done to prove it.
In short, as long as you've got enough in there, you can go quite a while between changes with nothing to fear. Don't be too worried about it.

I don't care how many test have been taken....that's BEGGING for trouble. I'm sure they've refined the product furthur and furthur as years go on, but why test the waters??? It's inexpensive and cheap to change oil. I'm gonna laugh when somebody post a thread about how they're screwed after their engine froze up in the middle of the highway. THAT'LL MAKE MY DAY!!!! Not to sound cynical or what have you.
