Layman's terms: Higher torque = Quicker acceleration at lower RPM.....That is why the Honda S2000 sux!!!!! 2.0L , 240HP and 136lbs/ft. Man, you have to rev the car to 6000RPM to get somewhere..

Lee, you needn't have worried. I can see what you were afraid of, but when you're dealing with a lot of pretty smart people (which we are, in spite of everything ), that's not what happens. What happens is, it's all part of a dialogue that leads to a good understanding. Take it from me -- without that simple, "plain English" simplification, very few of us would have been able to take much from this thread.

At least I sure wouldn't have. And I have no embarrassment about it, because not all that long ago I was (really) a super physics and math whiz. If I didn't get it, I'm reasonably sure not too many other people did either.

I think it turns out that torque is indeed what most of us just sort of thought. But, as you see, we weren't sure.
