New A/T Track Time

Took my tsx to the track today and tried a couple different methods to get the best time.
First tried launching in drive with tire pressure (F30,B30) - 16.2
Second run - Driving tip, tire pressure (F25, B30) - 16.007 @ 86.72

60ft - 2.37
330 - 6.763
1/8 - 10.348
mph - 69.23
1000 - 13.405
1/4 - 16.007
mph - 86.72

Mods are - Driver's fog out w/ home made snorkel from intake, K&N Filter, Test Pipe, No spare or tools

I have an 05 so no SS mode, only D3 unless that's the same mode. The one time I did run in D3, I ran the worst time.

With fwd you want all the weight on your front tires and have the rear as light as possible. By upping the tire pressure in the back and lowering in the front allows for maximum traction on launch.

ss = sport shift. all acura automatics have this function (since 2002 i believe). you can upshift manually

Acura calls it SportShift. Tiptronic is an Audi/Porsche term.

Those are very good times for an AT. You should try an even higher pressure on the backs (~40 psi) as this lowers the rolling resistance.

Did you brake torque'd?

I run about 40 PSI and 50 PSI in front tires on daly basis

Nope and it's around what most tires say is the max possible psi before failure.
What the hell are you doing running 50psi?!? lol

Are u guys kidding me? It says on tires what the maximum load is at certain pressure (ex 42 PSI on stock Michelines). Read the sticker on the left door column. It says something like 60 PSI is recommended. I know a person who drove at 90 PSI when 30 was suggested for maximum load.

What tires are you running? If it's the stock tires, then 50psi is WAY too much and extremely dangerous. For the stock MXM4 215/50/17 XLs, the MAX recommended pressure is 41psi ...

there is no way that much psi is recommended for our tires. at least not for the stock ones.

please go away.

Why are u guys always hate someone who has his own opinion or who is wrong???? Go away? I am not spamming or trying to confuse u about PSI #'s. I just tell u what I know and did.

You have to be reading the label wrong. There's no way they'd say 60 psi is the recommended pressure as that would cause many tires to either burst or come off the bead. With pressure that high, you are certainly running more on the center of the tread than you should be. You're contact patch is probably about 30% smaller than it should be. If you drop that pressure down to the mid 30s or so, you'll almost certainly see better traction. Steering response might be minutely slower so don't confuse the two thinking quick turn in is the ultimate metric.

You are unquestionably too high on the pressure if you do any remotely spirited driving. At 19 in this car, it's impossible that you don't.

HAHA true about my driving. I guess I was wrong about label since EVRYONE says that 60 is too high. Oh and I am not rinning 60, I run 50 in front and 40 in back tires. I acturally ran 30 PSI in the back tires before and noticed loss of thread at the edges. Anyways, its a good thing u guys told me this. thanks

For reference, I run 34 in the back and 36 in front on Falken 912s. I wasn't able to tell much difference in handling with anything in the 30s but after lots of trial and error I found this to be a pretty quiet choice. Tire pressure can have a big impact on road noise. Every brand is different too so it takes messing with to get the right choice.

I also drop the pressure about 2 psi all around as the weather gets cooler as this keeps the tires a bit warmer and stickier.

Interesting. I found that road noise decreases as the surface of friction becomes smaller. Also I noticed signicant decrease in body roll.

You're getting less roll because your tires are sliding laterally instead of gripping like they should. As far as the noise goes, I definitely noticed that mine start making more and more of a ringing sound as I get up near the top of the 30s and upward. You're always compromising competing factors when you mess with the tire pressure. Tread life vs traction. Fuel efficiency vs traction. The road noise is little more complicated as it's not normally a linear relationship. Most tires will have an optimal range where they are the quietest.

Hey I just took a close look at the sticker and it says front pressure has to be 32PSI and rear has to be 30PSI. 60 PSI is for spare tire

Cant wait to get rid of michelins

I was thinking that's probably what you did. It's hard to find a tire that isn't better than the stock tires. You will be pleased no matter what you pick.

Running those pressures on a daily basis is not safe handling wise.what I ment was that for DRAG racing a fwd car you shuold run ~25psi
front and ~40 psi rear for max acceleration.

I agree. The reason for that is, and u prolly know it, the car maker wants to cut money on anything that is possible to keep the car price down. It refers to oil, tires, coolant, speakers. So, how far away from the topic are we now ?
